Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the Spurs defense. “They have multiple guys that are tenacious, they get into the ball, and then they have Wemby behind them, and they know that, and they do that to their strength. So obviously, a really good defense. They've been a really good defense for a year, and to score on them, it's gonna take quick decisions, smart decisions, the right decisions, you gotta be really good offensively and really sound.”

Why can't we have nice things? Last year, Miami's offense was elite, but the defense held them back. They fixed the defense this year, and now the offense is a problem. Will the offense and defense ever been good at THE SAME TIME? Locked On Canes

Josh Allen on facing the Texans: “A really, really good team. A team that was in the playoffs last year. We understand what their defense is & has been. They have a fantastic coach. Those guys are going to be ready to play. They got after us last year, there’s no secret about it. Ultimately gotta go play our best football.”

#Oklahoma HC Brent Venables with super high praise for #Michigan's defense today: "I think their unit is a really good unit because of all three levels. They got really good players and they're well-coached. They're in a good scheme. Their coordinator is one of the best coordinators in the country."

Arteta on whether his side have become more streetwise since last season: "Yeah, but there is an element of luck as well because they are so good at doing that. They throw in numbers, they know exactly how to do it, the timing is so good, the type of players that they do. But not only that, when you give them a space to play as well, they play. They are a really, really good side. And yeah, in any other moment we could have conceded a goal in a different way, and that's part of the game as well."

🎙️ Bill Simmons: "Charlotte had Dell Curry Night, and it was really cool. Steph and Seth were there, the family was there... the Currys are royalty in Charlotte." "That franchise has had a complete facelift over the last couple of years. They drafted well, they changed owners, they got rid of Michael Jordan, and they hired a really good coach. They have an identity. They even have LaMelo Ball really engaged; he was great tonight." Full episode:

From Eric Vishria on how the top AI founders are building products completely opposite of the SaaS era: "One of the things that is really different in the AI world versus the SaaS world, is that in the SaaS world, over and over again, you had people who really understood the customer. And the problem. And then they understood a domain. They understood what the technology was more or less capable of. But it wasn't a real question of if you could build something or not. For example, take Salesforce, Workday, and ServiceNow. CRM existed before Salesforce. HR management existed before Workday. Same thing with ServiceNow. So in every case, Salesforce followed Siebel. Workday followed Peoplesoft. ServiceNow followed Peregrine and Remedy, and others. So they were just kind of, cloud SaaS versions of the prior generation product. They just understood the customers. They understood the problem. And they were just like, here's a better version. And that evolved a little bit over time in SaaS land. But that's what it is. And so product development in that way was done by people who really understood the customer and the problems. And then just took advantage of the next wave. And this is almost diametrically opposite of product development in the AI era. When I look at the teams that are having the most success today, they have intimate knowledge of the models. They are right on the frontier of understanding which models are better at what, and why, and when. And what they're going to be good at and what they're not going to be good at. And what they're spending their time on, is figuring out how do I apply this capability of this model to this domain or to this user. So they're actually working inside out or technology out, versus customer problem in. And of course, they understand the customer problem. And a lot of times they have firsthand knowledge of it. But they're really close to the metal and capability, and they're applying it. And I think this is a really different way to develop products than in SaaS. I started my career as a product manager a long time ago, and it's almost the complete opposite of everything you learned. "Listen to the customer, understand it, then bring it back to the engineering and product teams." If you did that right now, ask a bunch of customers what they want out of AI, and you brought it back, for the most part, it may not be possible today with today's technology. Whereas the teams that are winning right now really understand the technology and are applying it out. And so I think this reversal matters. I think it's a big difference in terms of how companies are getting built. And maybe even the types of entrepreneurs that will be successful. I'm not sure. You're seeing some real change there. Look at the Bret Taylor's at Sierra. That's a super, super technical founder who really gets it. Brett and Clay really get it. You look at Michael and his co-founders at Cursor. They're super technical founders and they get it. They all really understand what these things can and can't do. And that's a pretty different dynamic relative to the way the best SaaS companies got built." Penn State head football coach Matt Campbell believes in mastering the basics, not becoming a jack of all trades. " You've been there. Your team's not good enough yet. So you try to out scheme everybody. And really what happens is you become the jack of all trades, master of nothing. And we're always trying to catch up 'cause we're just not good enough. So we're gonna out scheme you. Which honestly, it sets your program back. And so what we did is really simple. We're gonna be really good at quarters. We're gonna play four down. We're gonna play base defense. We're gonna play quarters. We're gonna learn how to tackle. We're gonna learn how to run into the football. First drill we do every single day on defense is pursuit drill. Now we're 10th in the country in total team defense. You know what we do really well? We run with the football. You know what we did on offense? We took two run plays. We took three pass plays. But we got really good at it. We became great teachers again instead of trying to be the jack of all trades We got back to what allowed our kids to learn and grow and develop to be the best they can be."

Eliot Shorr-Parks has been very impressed by the Eagles defense so far in training camp. "What I'm seeing the first two days isn't bad offense it's great they defense. The linebackers have been awesome, secondary has made plays, defensive line was dominant. The story of the day is this defense barring any injury is going to be very, very good."

Brandon Jennings says the Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield trade don’t make sense “I don’t know what the Warriors are doing. You give up two guys who can go for 30 any giving night. For Kuminga he is going to a team with Quin Snyder who is a good coach and develop young players they have a good young core they definitely won that trade. Warriors getting back Porzingis he is only played 65 games maybe one time in the last 10 years. At this point I don’t really know what the Warriors is really doing or thinking. Thank God Kuminga got out of there and now he can really go to a system where they’re young and the future is bright” (Via Gil’s Arena)
