Had an interesting conversation this weekend with an older relative who's politics are "just be a good person". She's relatively wealthy and gives to the types of causes you would expect this type of person to give. She gives her time too. She is actually a good person. I asked her if she was ever concerned that the causes she gave to would reduce the proportion of people like her in the world. She said that she thought the opposite. That she was inspired by the generosity and kindness of others, and that by giving she would increase the proportion of people like her. I said I believed she inspires her peers, but her peers aren't the people she's giving money to. Do they become productive and generous people, like her? Or is she just increasing the proportion of people who are takers and don't give anything back? Despite decades of generosity, this was clearly a question she had never thought about. The implications made her uncomfortable, and the conversation basically ended after that.

This is Stephanie Melgoza, she was a nursing student in Illinois. She was driving drunk and in 2022 she killed two innocent people.. This is police body cam footage of her showing absolutely no remorse, and in fact she’s singing, and laughing. She asks when she can go back to school, and when she can get her car back, the officer tells her again the “car is totaled. It’s a crime scene. She will not be getting it back and she killed two people”. Her reaction is absolutely mind-boggling to the officer & me. I have to think that she’s just possessed. She went to trial in 2023 and was only given 14 years. That is not nearly enough time. She should be in jail forever.!

The passing of Asha Bhosleji feels like the fading of one of the great soundtracks of my generation. She and her sister Lata Mangeshkarji were not just singers, they were the voices of India itself. This girls co-worker put in a three week notice for PTO for her sister's upcoming wedding that she had to travel for. It was approved by the manager but two days before the girls departure, she's asked if she can change her plans because they need her for a client presentation. She obliviously can't because flights and hotels are already paid for and non-refundable, so she goes to her sisters wedding.
