Reading shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be accessible to all. A re-elected SNP government will expand access to free books for children across Scotland, in partnership with The Dollywood Foundation UK. On May 7, make it both votes SNP for a Scottish Government that’s on your side.

🚨📖Scotland has seen widespread library closures and hollowed-out services over the past 15–20 years, largely driven by local authority funding pressures stemming from SNP government cuts. What exactly is your excuse for that? Don’t tell me, Westminster? 🥱

Would that not be called a Library ?

These were 'top pledges' for children in the SNP's 2021 manifesto... > free laptop or tablet with a free internet connection for every school pupil > free bikes for all school children who can’t afford one Neither of those promises materialised.

Your policies are making it difficult for children to learn & teachers to teach. Presumption of mainstream, restorative practices, huge class sizes, cuts to specialist provisions & support staff, preventing exclusions for behaviour are all causing significant issues in schools.

Ah - the SNP government - under which illiteracy in Scotland is now about 1 in 5.....but still we will hand out books to kids who can't read....

More baloney election promises from the SNP which are as believable as: - Scrapping the ‘unfair’ council tax -Creating a new national energy company for Scotland - Ending child poverty - Dialling the A9 - Closing the education attainment gap - Reducing drug deaths Etc, etc!

Save the kids from the SNP

More free stuff from the SNP!!! Yay!!!!! Anyone would think it was an election year!!!

Another dodgy charity initiative... Charities should be just that. Charities. Not used as an extension of the already bloated public sector. Most of them now survive off taxpayer cash - a scandal.

What’s stopped you doing this for the last 15 years? The Sturgeon photo op with Dolly about her foundation was in 2011.

So if reading isn’t a luxury but a necessity why are you closing down all the libraries & further more why aren’t you teaching children to read. Are you aware of the number of Kip McGrath Learning centres in Scotland now which those who can afford it have their kids taught in?

Can't imagine what type of books the SNP will force the kids to read - Strugeon's ramblings in Frankly or Jenny Gilruth's Modern Studies SNP propaganda texts?

@EMackintosh1 State approved books?

If you had fulfilled your promise on tablets/laptops for all children, then they would have been able to download them to read, as opposed to all them trees you will have to cut down 🤔 Surely the Scottish greens can’t be supportive of this?

There used to be a time in primary school pupils were given books to read from different authors. Then there was a library of many different books where children could choose what to read Wonder what happened 🤔

Err ... okay. They won't be "free", the rest of us will be paying. Why hasn't this happened in @theSNP's previous 19 years? 🤔

The SNP are only ever on the side of the SNP, and never on the side of the Scottish ppl

Reading should be a luxury. It shouldn’t be an indoctrination

Screech …..

Thats called a library, John. Something you chose to pull the plug on up and down the country.

Why have you implemented it by now ? Holding people to ransom to get basic services but only if you vote snp you are repugnant

A completely illiterate party advocating reading. Full spectrum clowns.

Mrs Angry the worst Education Minister we have ever had (and that is saying something with this SNP govt)

You have heard of the Public Libraries act 1850 right? So maybe less of the “reading shouldnt be a luxury” drivel. Its isnt and hasnt been since the mid victorian era, even before then our sunday schools system, ensured literacy in Scotland was superior to elsewhere in the UK.

This is bizarre. You've had 20 years in power ... but you're campaigning on promises to fix the things that you broke.

Free, really? Nothing is free, taxpayers money being dished out again for votes 🙄

Children and parents beware - she might look like little red riding hood, but she’s the wolf in disguise. She’ll worm her way into your children’s brain as she did with yours.

Is this like the free laptops and bikes promised last time?

Hypocrisy on steroids.

@Ivan_McKee Perhaps funding LAs properly so they can keep libraries open would be a good start

Your Government forced library closures.

19 fkn years they’ve had

Libraries are made for reading and are from charge in Scotland. Run by local authorities. You would think @TheSNP would know this. You would think that the Education Secretary would know this! Instead of gimmicks, use and improve the resources we already have.
