Sometimes C’s get caught starting in wrong spot and the drop step takes us out of position. He may have also recognized the hop and believed to drop step, gave him best chance to handle throw, and still come back to plate for tag. C’s need to train both techniques of tag plays. Chance here to block plate off from R I believe
