Kīlauea Eruption Episode 46 Update May 5, 2026, 5:30 pm HST Episode 46 of lava fountaining in Halemaʻumaʻu at the summit of Kīlauea began at 8:17 am HST on May 5 and ended about 9 hours later at 5:22 pm HST. 🌋Kīlauea eruption episode 47 summary Episode 47 of the Kīlauea summit eruption in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park stopped at 12:27 am HST May 15 after 9 hours of lava fountaining. 🌋 Lava flowed from the south vent about 75 times in the 12 hours before episode 47, but only the north vent produced a lava fountain (up to 650 ft/200 m) during the episode. The south vent continued to overflow for a couple of hours, diminishing over time to spattering and then only flames. An estimated 6.2 million cubic yards (5.2 million cubic meters) of lava spilled across Halemaʻumaʻu, covering nearly half of the crater floor with new lava. 💨 The eruptive plume rose to about 20,000 ft (6,000 m) above sea level; weak winds as the episode peaked allowed the plume to rise vertically, causing tephra to fall around Kaluapele (Kīlauea caldera). Most tephra fell within the closed area of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, but sparse reticulite up to 3 inches (5 centimeters) in size fell at both the Uēkahuna and Keanakākoʻi overlooks. Fine ash and Peleʻs hair fell in communities to the northeast. ⛔️ The USGS kept the Kīlauea alert level/aviation color code at WATCH/ORANGE throughout the episode because fallout was not extensive and did not last very long. After the episode ended, USGS lowered Kīlauea to ADVISORY/YELLOW reflecting that volcanic activity had decreased significantly but continues to be closely monitored for possible renewed increase. Not just saying this coz cr7's stans are hilariously triggered and running maliciously edited agendas on here - this is just a pure truth nuke: When you actually watch them both play across dozens of full games, Henry in his prime years was generally more unstoppable, more unpredictable, more dominant, more threatening, and more capable of carrying lesser teammates. It's fairly obvious too tbh Cr7 is clearly an all timer of course (nowhere near goat tho), has his own advantages (technical consistency in certain actions/areas, predatory goal-scoring), and deserves a bigger legacy due to immense longevity, skillset, adaptability, records - but he has also benefited massively from selfish main character syndrome + spending his prime stat-padding in two of the most expensive, dominant super teams ever - not to mention the 2 biggest global brands. After Penaldo (+Tevez) left and were replaced inadequately, Utd got a bit worse. Yet they still won more leagues, and got to another CL final shortly after. Real Madrid kept churning big titles no problem. After Henry left, Arsenal went 20+ years without sniffing the same heights. Of course Henry leaving is not the only, or even biggest reason for that - but it is indicative of the environments they operated in. Henry carried Arsenal to their 2 biggest milestones - the invincibles+06 CL final run - far more than Ronaldo has ever carried anything Both at their best, Henry makes you a bit more likely to win football matches in most scenarios. Virtually every defender who played against both around their primes, says Henry was better/tougher, and the tape backs it up. While Henry gets slated by his countrymen, he was better for France than Ronaldo was for Portugal. You can throw all the cherry picked out of context stats and all the ballon d'ors and all the dishonest edited fail comps - or you can extensively watch the actual tape. Henry has bullied and spanked every goat level defender multiple times - not sure Cristiano on his own wud make Carragher sweat much. As a pure individual, a good defender generally locks him up more easily, he's more reliant on elite service (this is all relative, and a matter of degrees ofc) It's also hilarious that Henry legit eats more negative, lazy narratives than cr7 does, despite Cristiano having a much bigger profile, much greater longevity - and still having equivalent black marks (forget world cup or euros record, dont look at his record vs Chelsea or liverpool, especially away, never mind his actual performances which his stats usually inflate) - people seem to lowkey understand in the back of their minds who should be held to higher standards + Henry is hit with bad faith agendas by every modern PL fan cuz they think he's 'gettable' (salah, kdb, cr7, even the odd hazard/drogba stan) Henry was legit a big part of Arsenal becoming a global superbrand, big part of why they have a cultural stranglehold. In his prime, rivals across England would regularly chant his name as he destroyed their teams, just coz of how outrageously good he was. Nothing manufactured. Despite all that he adjusted his role and deferred to Zidane for France and Messi for Barcelona, for the good of the team. Pendu on the other hand got botox, fillers and does buttlicking sycophantic interviews with Piers Morgan for the same reason he fouls his own teammates to statpad another tap in, shamelessly takes his shirt off for the cameras after an invisible performance + penalty to make it 4-1 in a CL final, performatively 'coaches' in euro 2016 (the players who actually won the game didn't notice), and tanked every team for the last 5+ years with his burdening presence: to bolster his own brand/legacy no matter what. The Man Who Gave Away Patagonia Doug Tompkins sold his stake in The North Face for $50,000. He used the money to co-found Esprit. Then he sold that too, and did something almost no one does with a fortune: he disappeared. He moved to the tip of South America in 1990 with a theory most businessmen would find absurd. He believed the best thing a rich man could do was buy wilderness before someone else destroyed it, then hand it back to the country it belonged to. Together with his wife Kris, a former CEO of Patagonia clothing, they bought and conserved more than 2 million acres across Chile and Argentina. For context: that is roughly the size of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined. Most of it had been degraded farmland. Overgrazed, stripped, exhausted. The Valle Chacabuco ranch alone had been one of South America’s largest sheep operations. They bought it in 2004 for $10 million, then spent another $55 million over 20 years restoring the grasslands. Pumas returned. Guanacos returned. The land remembered what it was. The Chileans were not immediately grateful. Many locals saw it as a land grab. An American buying millions of acres and telling them to change their way of life. Some accused him of planning to split the country in two. Others claimed he was building a nuclear waste site. He kept buying land anyway. The deal his wife finalized in his name after his death became the largest-ever private land donation to a country. Over 1 million acres handed directly to Chile, triggering government protections on another 9 million. Five new national parks. Three expanded. A conservation corridor stretching 1,250 miles. He died on December 8, 2015, in a kayaking accident on a Patagonian lake, surrounded by friends including Yvon Chouinard. He had called what he was doing “paying rent for his time on the planet.” There is a certain kind of person who builds something great and then builds something greater by walking away from it. Tompkins is the rarest version: he walked away from two fortunes, bought a wilderness, and gave it to strangers. The land is still there. The sheep are gone. He rightly said this was happening not only with cars but with other American products with no reciprocal pushback from US political and business leaders. He railed against neo-liberal/neo-con globalists who are destroying our country's manufacturing base and gutting our cities. That, if we let them keep going, America ad a whole will suffer as Detroit has. That was his point. About an hour into his speech, Trump said if you elect Harris, you'll get more of the same: "Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she's your president." The media ripped this 6 seconds and presented it in isolation. Misleading snippets. Ugly stuff. A true threat to democracy.
