Reagan warned us that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction Back then, many Americans believed socialism and communism could never take root here. Today, politicians openly praise government control, punish success, weaken personal responsibility, and promise that surrendering more freedom will somehow make us more...

Happy 4th of July? Millions of Americans think they’re celebrating 250 years of “freedom” today, but what they’re really celebrating is 250 years of corruption, endless war, and a capitalist system that exploits the many to enrich the few. The uncomfortable truth is none of us in the U.S. are free. We are owned by banks, exploited by billionaires, and controlled by two parties that sell us out at every turn. Freedom is just the illusion they sell to hide the cage and prevent people from ever questioning the dictatorship of capital that controls, exploits, and monetizes every aspect of our lives from birth to death. Where is the freedom when a handful of billionaires [and a trillionaire] hoard ungodly fortunes through the mass exploitation of our labor and the mass extraction of resources that belong to our communities? Where is the freedom when our tax dollars fund endless wars, genocide, and the mass murder of children abroad all to further enrich the billionaire class? Where is the freedom when 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to afford basic needs like housing, healthcare, and groceries? Where is the freedom when 75% of Americans can’t afford a median-priced home, 100 million Americans live with medical debt, and 140 million Americans are poor or low-income? There is no freedom here. We are all prisoners of a decrepit capitalist system that keeps us trapped in the rat race by demonizing the one economic system, socialism, that would put the economy in the hands of the people. Imagine a world where workers own the means of production, resources are used for the benefit of all, and decisions are made to meet the basic needs of the people rather than the endless greed of billionaires. That is socialism, and there is nothing scary about it. What is scary is continuing to allow a handful of billionaires and two capitalist parties to control our entire economy and make life-or-death decisions for all of humanity. Now is not the time to celebrate a “freedom” that we never had. Now is the time to fight for our freedom from the dictatorship of capital.

.President Donald J. Trump: So tonight, let us say clearly and proudly what makes Americans so unique and extraordinary. We are going to give our country its identity back. Above all, Americans love freedom. We cherish independence, and know that we are the heirs to the most beautiful land, the most thrilling story, and the most precious legacy on which the sun has ever shined. In America, we do not need anyone’s permission to say what we think, to live as we please, to worship as we choose, or to keep and bear arms. For 6 years, I have saved, almost singlehandedly, your Second Amendment—and I will continue to do so. Our rights were given to us by the God who made us, and those rights shall not be infringed. Americans believe in self-reliance. We look at success not with envy, but with admiration—and we earn it. We are an incredibly good, kind, and generous people—always ready to help a friend or neighbor in need. No one has ever given more to charity, ended more hunger, cured more disease, or done more to uplift humanity than Americans, and no country ever will. Americans honor excellence, we admire boldness, we respect ambition. We are a nation of dreamers and believers, warriors and explorers, doers and fighters. In every human endeavor, Americans see an unfinished competition. What is strong can be made stronger, what is fast can be made faster, what is great can be made greater than ever before. Show us a mountain, and we’ll climb it. Show us an ocean, and we’ll cross it. Show us a problem, and we’ll conquer it. Show us a task the world calls “impossible,” and Americans will get it done. Americans are strong, and always ready to stand firm for a good cause. We treasure justice, fairness, family, honesty, and human dignity. Unlike societies based on class, clan, or tribe, we see every citizen as an individual—equal under the law, and equal in the eyes of the Lord. In America, we speak English, because that is the language of our Founding, and for a thousand years, that has been the language of Freedom. An American always wants peace and order, but we will never shrink from danger or threat. We fight, fight, fight, and we win, win, win. This is our culture. This is our character. Not every American is ALL of these things—but every American knows these are the traits that make our country exceptional. You do not have to be born here—but you do have to love what we have built here. There has never been anything like us anywhere on earth, and we are not going to let anyone take it away.
