Several presentations were made at the Kyankwanzi retreat but time was scarce and new members needed to be allowed time to express themselves. Nonetheless, I could not fail to chip in with comments especially on PDM and unemployment. I encouraged all stakeholders to not use recovery as a measure of performance because this creates tension and worry but also neglects other economic benefits that come from having such a program like PDM. I believe in President Yoweri K Museveni's approach of bringing people into the money economy. For some people 1m is the biggest they have held, whereas some invested some didn't. However the benefits of the program outweigh the recovery, for example; 1. It's a tester program for if Uganda ever created a welfare fund for all citizens. We would already have a strategy for effective implementation. 2. The PDM got members at the Parish level talking and discussing economics. I think all leaders should augment the efforts and guide communities on very profitable and suitable ventures. 3. We can easily get planning and budgeting responsive to as low a Parish, if the program also focuses on feedback loop. I thank you!

Fellow Ugandans, especially the bazukulu, today, I resumed my Zonal PDM assessment tours, this time in the Teso sub-region. My first stop was in Serere District to see for myself how a young man named Joseph Ijara listened to my message back in 2011 and is now earning over 600 million shillings per year in net profit from dairy farming, poultry, and manufacturing bar soap, all this on just 2.5 acres. He was a taxi driver who came to one of my rallies, but after he was delayed there, he lost his job. That’s when Ijara decided to use his resources to create wealth. He listened, acted, and is now reaping the benefits. To those who complain about job scarcity, I say: follow Ijara’s example. Apply what we teach, and you will see results. My second stop was a visit to Kapelebyong District to check on Betty Atia, a PDM beneficiary who is rearing pigs. She shared her journey of starting with 1 million shillings, enabling her to buy piglets and invest in a better pigsty. I was impressed by her resilience; despite challenges like feeding and stray pigs, her determination is evident! We shall support her efforts with land and fencing.

The oldest teenage boy in the village dresses up as “Straw Judas,” symbolizing Judas Iscariot. He then leads a procession where children go from door to door, singing songs and receiving sweets, eggs, and money from villagers — all collected in a cart pulled by Judas. At the end of the day, after visiting every household, the children lead Judas to a hill or field outside the village, where he is stripped of his costume.
