Honestly, been all downhill since Xbox360/PS3. They keep acting like graphics are getting better cause of RTX or whatever, but the art direction and design has fell off a cliff.

Realism in Japanese games is an art style in itself, we need something like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within but goodly written.

Realistic art styles doesn’t mean they can’t be stylized. That’s what people who make them don’t realize I mean hyper realistic games will always have their place, like tactical shooters and the like. But for the love of god give me realistic looking games with some flair

Gaming is an entertainment medium. If a dev wants to go with realism, they need to constantly focus on how it can entertain. If a dev wants to lean more into fantasy, they need to have the same focus. Entertainment.

@AllieRX There's something about the aesthetic in a lot of PS2, Original Xbox, GameCube and Dreamcast era of games. Partly due to the natural grit of being developed in standard definition. Which is a greater asset than a lot of people realize.
