ok, cool, but facebook had that like 10 years ago. it's just a depth map and background inpainting. this doesn't even create a 3d model from it or you could actually walk behind them and see rendered backs of their bodies

Wait, what is this from? This is exactly what it was like.

It's the movie 'Minority Report' (2002) :)

Ok. I definitely saw that for some reason I forgot that part. I will need to rewatch it. Thank you.

Turns out very similar to what Steven Spielberg visualised back in 2002 in the film ‘Minority Report’ starring Tom Cruise. 🤯

@grok what app / model is used to create this?

For me, this falls under "Neat, but idgaf." I mean, I'm not putting on a headset to look at photos. Also, the "memory" that you're "walking into" is the photographer's, not yours, so to me it's not as appealing as it would be for pics I took personally.

Don Allen Stevenson III's profile picture
Don Allen Stevenson III8 months ago

That’s a fair point. I will say walking in the photo did trigger different memories than when I look at the photo on my phone because how I remember things is more spatial.

Very cool technology. How long before AI can fill in the rest of the scene and make it fully three dimensional though?

Don Allen Stevenson III's profile picture
Don Allen Stevenson III8 months ago

A different algorithm can do that right now, but it is a little bit lower resolution than what I’d like so for this demonstration, I used a higher resolution quality just to get the faces looking right

VERY slippery slope - walking into memories can be cathartic but I can see a future where doing so becomes more important to many because making new memories today is "too hard" for whatever reason.

The Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 for the 256GB model, offering immersive spatial computing for entertainment (personal theaters, games), productivity (virtual multi-monitor setups), and communication through spatial apps like Safari, Photos, and Messages, transforming your physical space into a dynamic digital environment. Walking through your memories is quite something. The architecture for expansion through AI is speeding towards a fully immersive 'memoryscape'. It won't be too long until your memory will be extracted like a file from a cabinet and living within them will be possible.

Which is something that we have to be really careful about because if left unchecked, this could be a very slippery slope to having convincing realities that you never want to leave

Soon enough AI will easily fill up that distorted space and any photo will become explorable. BTW this was a Black Mirror episode.
