Capybaras are semi-aquatic animals that are excellent swimmers, so it's not uncommon to see them running underwater. However, they don't necessarily run underwater in the same way they run on land. Instead, they use their powerful legs to propel themselves forward while holding their breath.

Reminds me of the African Hippo running, ney galloping under water with amazing speed. They coevolved in aquatic adaptation.

This so the first time I’ve ever seen one of these underwater. I didn’t know they could do this.

I wonder how the capybara is able keep air in its lungs and still be able to stay submerged without the air drawing them up to the surface

These guys have exploded in popularity: they’re like the axolotl of the rodent world. :-)
