I didn’t know Apostle Arome Osayi was this bold about doctrinal errors! In all my life, I have never seen anyone bolder! Did the likes of Spiricoco Twittter see this? Did you say anything about it? Did you call him a heretic? Did Gideon Odoma see this? Did it line up with your theology? The entire CT saw this and said nothing but Hypergrace preachers have to be the heretics? I never knew the conspiracy of silence was this loud! I am so shocked, I didn’t know it was this bad!! How come no one in the body of Christ has really taken this up! The idea that Jesus, in His eternal state, is somehow deserving of a lesser degree of worship, or that we cannot address Him directly in prayer, is not a humble, cautious position. It is a deviation from both the testimony of the early Christians and the plain teaching of Scripture. The first believers called upon the name of Jesus, prayed to Him, worshipped Him without restraint, and were willing to die rather than deny His full deity. They did not worship a subordinate Christ. When a theological position on the person of Christ makes former Jehovah's Witnesses uncomfortable because it sounds too familiar, that is worth pausing over. It should cause us to ask hard questions about where that road leads and whose company we are keeping doctrinally. Jesus Christ is not a lesser object of worship. He is not off-limits in prayer. He is fully God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father, and He is worthy of every prayer, every act of worship, and every confession of faith we can offer.

I had never seen this video until tonight but it’s something I have been thinking about for the better part of a year. In the Old Testament, God’s name is not merely a label. His name represents His identity, His authority, His reputation, and His character. That is why the Third Commandment is so serious: “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Exodus 20:7 What is Gods name? His character. Moses asks: “Show me thy glory.” Exodus 33:18 God answers: “I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee.” Exodus 33:19 Then God proclaims His name: “The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth…” Exodus 34:6 His name tells us who He is. That is why to profane His name is to misrepresent Him. Leviticus 19:12: “Ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God.” Jeremiah 14:14 condemns prophets who speak “lies in my name” even though God says: “I sent them not, neither have I commanded them.” Ezekiel 36:20 says Israel “profaned my holy name” because the nations looked at them and said: “These are the people of the LORD.” Israel bore God’s name before the nations. Their conduct taught the world something about the God they claimed to represent. When they acted contrary to His character, they made Him appear to be something He was not. That is why God says: “I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen.” Ezekiel 36:23 Now carry that into the New Testament. The Lord’s Prayer begins: “Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9 The very first thing Jesus teaches His disciples is that the Father’s name be treated as holy. If God’s name represents His character, then “hallowed be thy name” means more than speaking respectfully. It means that who God truly is must be honored, preserved, and represented faithfully. Then Jesus Himself becomes the clearest revelation of that character. “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” John 14:9 Hebrews says Christ is: “The brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person.” Hebrews 1:3 Colossians calls Him: “The image of the invisible God.” Colossians 1:15 In the Old Testament, God reveals His character through His name. In the New Testament, God reveals His character through Christ. That means Christ becomes the standard by which every claim about God must be tested. If you say: “God is like this.” “God wants this.” “God commands this.” then the question becomes: Does that claim actually comport with the God revealed in Christ? Jesus also warns that invoking His name does not automatically mean someone represents Him. “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord…” Matthew 7:22 They say: “Have we not prophesied in thy name?” “And in thy name have cast out devils?” “And in thy name done many wonderful works?” Yet Jesus answers: “I never knew you.” Matthew 7:23 You can use God’s name and still misrepresent God. You can claim Christ’s name and still not reflect Christ. You can invoke divine authority and still be speaking from yourself. Paul carries the Old Testament principle directly into the New Testament: “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you.” Romans 2:24 That is almost exactly the same pattern as Ezekiel. God’s people claim Him. They act contrary to Him. The outside world watches. The world forms conclusions about God from the people who bear His name. And God’s name is blasphemed because His character has been falsely represented. This is why the name of Christ becomes so important for believers. Acts 11:26 says: “The disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Christians bear the name of Christ. From the Third Commandment to the final chapter of Revelation, the responsibility is consistent: If you bear His name, do not misrepresent His character.

Their conduct taught the world something about the God they claimed to represent. When they acted contrary to His character, they made Him appear to be something He was not. That is why God says: “I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen.” Ezekiel 36:23 Now carry that into the New Testament. The Lord’s Prayer begins: “Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9 The very first thing Jesus teaches His disciples is that the Father’s name be treated as holy. If God’s name represents His character, then “hallowed be thy name” means more than speaking respectfully. It means that who God truly is must be honored, preserved, and represented faithfully. Then Jesus Himself becomes the clearest revelation of that character. “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” John 14:9 Hebrews says Christ is: “The brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person.” Hebrews 1:3 Colossians calls Him: “The image of the invisible God.” Colossians 1:15 In the Old Testament, God reveals His character through His name. In the New Testament, God reveals His character through Christ. That means Christ becomes the standard by which every claim about God must be tested. If you say: “God is like this.” “God wants this.” “God commands this.” then the question becomes: Does that claim actually comport with the God revealed in Christ? Jesus also warns that invoking His name does not automatically mean someone represents Him. “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord…” Matthew 7:22 They say: “Have we not prophesied in thy name?” “And in thy name have cast out devils?” “And in thy name done many wonderful works?” Yet Jesus answers: “I never knew you.” Matthew 7:23 You can use God’s name and still misrepresent God. You can claim Christ’s name and still not reflect Christ. You can invoke divine authority and still be speaking from yourself. Paul carries the Old Testament principle directly into the New Testament: “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you.” Romans 2:24 That is almost exactly the same pattern as Ezekiel. God’s people claim Him. They act contrary to Him. The outside world watches. The world forms conclusions about God from the people who bear His name. And God’s name is blasphemed because His character has been falsely represented. This is why the name of Christ becomes so important for believers. Acts 11:26 says: “The disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Christians bear the name of Christ.
