Recall watching this interview with Dennis Potter when it was first broadcast and thinking how crazy he was. Now I appreciate he was a prophet. Labour needs to be radical in office and attend to this cancer. There must be no more secretive meetings.

I think Cloughie just beat him to it. A tad more succinctly but still very prescient

Maxwell was a crook but infinitely less of a danger to the fabric of our society than Murdoch.

Many people at the time knew he was right. The Sun under McKenzie was a vile rag throughout the 80s as demonstrated by it's unwavering support for Thatcher. Nothing has changed, it's actually got worse.

I was young then - but we grow older and wiser - if we have eyes to see and ears to hear!

Incredibly moving & absolutely bang on. I remember Bragg brought the interview to a close as he ran out of energy & Potter paid a wonderful compliment to him, on his interview & journalism skills. A helluva TV moment, this, as were his plays, which could be incredibly challenging

I often think about the way he said, 'it's rescuable' and then modified with a critically important, '- just'. And then I remind myself this was the April of 1994.

Sadly for ordinary folk, I now believe that Starmer's Labour with their apparent fondness for every step the Tory Government makes are part of the problem and not part of the solution. The cancer in public life been growing for many years.

You think Starmer's going to use Murdoch to win office then turn on him? 😃

I came across this interview by chance one late evening when I was around 18. It had a profound effect on me. Now, at 50, I fear for our democracy and for my teenage daughter growing up in this country.
