The U.S. has never before used hypersonic (Mach 5 or greater) weapons in combat. The Dark Eagle is a precision offensive strike weapon that travels at over 3,800 mph, and can maneuver unpredictably mid-flight. Which makes it essentially impossible for existing missile defense systems to intercept. It has a range of over 1,650 mi, meaning it could reach Tehran from launch positions in the Gulf in minutes. The reason CENTCOM wants it now is that Iran has moved its ballistic missile launchers deeper into the country, beyond the reach of the current Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). Each hypersonic costs roughly $15 million, and there are no more than 8 available. Russia and China, it’s worth noting, have been deploying their own versions for years. He said he was “trying to verify” the reports but did not provide further details. GeoConfirmed, an OSINT group that verifies footage through geolocation, says the destroyed school in Minab, Hormozgan Province, was located near an IRGC naval base that was also struck in the same wave of airstrikes. The group says there is no evidence the explosion was caused by a failed IRGC missile launch, and that the more plausible explanation, based on available evidence, is that the school was hit during the broader strikes on the base.
