Yesterday, the United States' Department of Defense announced Pakistan as one of several international allies to receive new AIM-120 AMRAAM C8/D3 air-to-air missiles in a $2.5 Billion contract. The upgraded missiles feature a 50% greater range (up to ~100+ miles), improved guidance, upgraded electronics, and better performance against modern threats compared to Pakistan's existing AIM-120C-5 missiles, which were acquired in 2006 under the Peace Drive II F-16 deal. Pakistan earlier acquired 500 AIM-120C5 AMRAAMs from the U.S. in 2006 in a $650 million deal, with which a Pakistan Air Force F-16A shot down an Indian Air Force MiG-21 Bison in February 2019.

I managed to find rare footage of Omsk’s air defense in action during the recent Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s largest and most valuable oil refinery. The density of the air defense fire is striking. Nevertheless, a Ukrainian FP-1 long-range kamikaze drone somehow managed to break through the heavy Russian air defense response and reached the refinery grounds.
