Recently, a CDPR developer claimed that Cyberpunk 2077 elevators don’t hide load times and are actually moving. I decided to test this claim with mods and discovered that it’s true. Not only is it true, but CP2077 has the fastest load-in of assets I’ve ever seen in a game.

The elevator rides aren’t boring either. Stuff like the news reports do worldbuilding about how normalized the social decay is.

Agreed, they add to the overall sense of immersion massively

I thought it was obvious the elevators are actually elevators, the way lighting freaks out especially lol

I think the crazy part for me is that the megabuilding interior loads in instantly and that the view from V's apartment is completely real. Most games usually put a facade and unload the real exterior

SSDs are pretty good for asset streaming

cyberpunk 2077 is a technical marvel and it’s sad that cdpr is abandoning their proprietary tech

Its depressing but also according to reports, a lot of the reason for why Cyberpunk launched like it did is because its a pain to develop for this engine, so I hope they figure out UE5

The more you delve into this game the crazier the fact that they seriously thought they could release this on the PS4/XBO seems. This kind of world streaming requires an SSD, and even for HDD standards the PS4/XBO were slow

Yeah aiming to release Cyberpunk on last gen was probably their biggest mistake during development, its a marvel they actually made it playable eventually with patches

@kayjune_ or just the team that was capable of building and using this engine got swapped with diversity hires.

@kayjune_ it's hilarious how y'all just make things up and then get mad at it

@kayjune_ Well it’s fact almost none from Witcher 2 or 3 team is there anymore

@SynthPotato And you’re saying that TW2/3 teams weren’t also diverse? They were, just about as much as Cyberpunk’s was. There were a lot of reasons for CP2077’s issues, team diversity wasn’t one of them.

Yet those elevators are really too slow, especially for a futuristic setting. Many RL elevators move faster right now.

Synth Potato🥔's profile picture
Synth Potato🥔7 months ago

I think they were made slow for atmospheric reasons, but it does get annoying when you don't fast travel and have to sit through an overly long ride for the 50th time in a playthrough

It's insane to me that they've abandoned the Red Engine for Unreal.

Its kind of hilarious that it was being used as an example for what NOT to do for a solid 3 years and after 2.0 we now use it as the top example for what a proper next gen game should look like

Rino🚀's profile picture
Rino🚀7 months ago

Yeah, it’s one of those very rare examples of something having a terrible launch after 12 years of hype and then fixing things to the point when not only people are satisfied but citing them as “the best”.

Was my old computer that was an issue, but when I first got the game, if I drove too fast, id fall through the road because it couldn't load fast enough XD

CP2077’s redemption arc might be one of the best in gaming history. From meme disaster to technical flex. That’s rare.

then why can't we have balconies 😭

Synth Potato🥔's profile picture

Actually plenty of other interiors in the game have balconies and you can jump off them, i remember there was a gig for the Valentinos where you can do it

Yes but I don't think any of V's apartments have one sadly

Irfan's profile picture

@SynthPotato lore reason prob, V is simply not rich enough lol or V is worry enough about security of their living space and prefer small windows (them small windows annoy me too)

@SynthPotato you should check out the apartment in The Glen 🗿 V is not afraid of large windows

there are mods to increase elevator speeds that have no bearing on performance whatsoever. this game is a technical marvel. literally the best visual to performance ratio i have ever seen

The completely opaque elevators with the silver doors in lower endings are hidden load screens. In the "old" (irl current) style of elevators you can see the exact load transition every time. Why do you apply the one standout elevator to every elevator in the game?

Synth Potato🥔's profile picture
Synth Potato🥔7 months ago

These are not hidden load screens, I checked them and can confirm they also move in reality same as the megabuilding one. That “transition” is actually just the lighting changing between exterior and interior, you can noclip it and see it loads instantly

and they decided to ditch everything they did with this engine to go for Unreal

After patches this game is fucking masterpiece

1ups_ 🇫🇷's profile picture
1ups_ 🇫🇷7 months ago

And then there's starfield, where sometimes both ends of an elevator are on the same map, but there's still a loading screen where the map unloads and loads again, because the engine doesn't support it any other way

This was clear from just looking at lighting artefacts inside the elevator. Those of us who played the game already knew. Cool video tho

They really need to do at least one more big dlc for this game. They don’t even need to make it a story dlc just add new side content, open up some of the shops around the city, add activities to do. basically make the game more of a sandbox. I wanna rob stores etc.

Put the game in a relatively fast SSD and even while fast traveling you barely experience any load times. Cyberpunk is a technical marvel at levels even after 5 years we can’t comprehend

I played this a year after it came out so all the bugs and stuff were gone and it’s hands down one of my favorite games. It’s without a doubt the most detailed world in gaming and as a universe it’s just outstanding that the Cyberpunk lore and timeline start in 1859.

sad they ditched their own engine for UE5. Yes, it launched as a disaster but I wouldn’t say this is the engines fault. We see how good the game turned out. Cyberpunk is a master piece

You can't compare Cyberpunk 2077 launch to GTA 6 and here's exactly why Cyberpunk 2077 was the CDPR's first installment to feature a futuristic city with tons of NPCs and fast moving cars, something which was never done before on Witcher games. The gameplay video from Cyberpunk 2077 shown off in 2019 had a clear text showing "work in progress - does not represent the final look of the game" After the launch disaster of Cyberpunk 2077, Marcin Iwiński also explained that the reason the game had so many bugs is that the game was designed for PC first in mind, then scaled down to consoles that still had a hard drive (PS4 and Xbox One) an extremely difficult task on its own, combined with the fact that the game development progress took a major hit during the pandemic. Rockstar Games on the other hand has a much different engine and experience working on large scale open world game filled with tons of NPCs and fast moving cars, including the fact that they're developing this game for current gen consoles first, then scaling it up for a PC release not vice versa. Are we guys suddenly forgetting the fact that Rockstar Games managed to get GTA V running on a PS3 console which had 256mb of VRAM and 256mb of RAM at that time? The reason Rockstar Games has shown zero gameplay of GTA 6 is because historically they save the gameplay showcase before the game launches, GTA 6 Trailer 2 came out in 2025 and all footage for that Trailer was captured on a base PS5 with a mix of gameplay and cutscenes. They'll obviously show off more gameplay on August 27th, but comparing Cyberpunk 2077 to GTA 6 isn't exactly fair for both companies. On one hand, it was CDPR's first time making that kind of genre of a game and on the other hand, it isn't Rockstar Games first time making a Grand Theft Auto game.
