I thought I’d weigh in on this and give my perspective on this and I'm sure it has a lot of moving parts.. First, BC has clearly been moving away from the old SRO model and I can’t imagine anyone is trying to simply move this gentleman into another SRO. But maybe we’re overlooking something important: community!! What if he doesn’t want to leave because this is his home? This is where he knows people, where he feels comfortable and where his connections are. How would any of us feel if we were told, “You have to leave your home and relocate somewhere else”? We’ve spent far too long displacing homeless and marginalized people from one neighbourhood to another and calling it a solution. Housing matters, but so does belonging, and sometimes the question shouldn’t just be “Where can we put this person?” It should be “How can we help this person remain connected to the community they call home?” I hope this helps.
