George Osborne is right. This is exactly why Prosper UK exists. Millions of centre and centre-right voters feel politically homeless. The Conservatives won’t win them back by looking only to Reform. They need a broad, pro-growth centre-right offer.

Last night the Lib Dems voted to allow multi-million pound payouts to failed water bosses. Here’s their spokeswoman on Monday admitting that is exactly what unlimited dismissal compensation means. All it took to buy them off? Two days and two extra peerages. This measure will mean more cash for failed, overpaid public sector workers and water bosses, paid for by ordinary workers who will see longer waits at the employment tribunal and lower salaries. Lib Dems also said themselves on Monday that scrapping the cap entirely, rather than just raising it, was never agreed by business groups. The Lib Dems are not on the side of business and they’re not on the side of workers. They’re in it for themselves. When they tell you who they are, believe them.

Glad that you’ve been listening to Reform about the how we need more technical and vocational training, Andy. We need an overhaul of the system. But it needs careful planning and importantly, resources as the FE sector and schools are already struggling. Where will the new coding teachers come from? How will you build the new workshops for trainee plumbers and builders? And, crucially, how will employers be incentivised to take on apprentices and young people because right now, Labour’s tax rises make it nigh-on impossible to hire younger people. Giving more money to those on welfare is not the right way to do this. Soundbites and cheeky videos are not the right way to do this. There is a real opportunity to back the next generation of workers, revitalise our workforce and get young people earning, learning and moving forward with their lives. We owe it to young people to get it right.

Latest polls (YouGov 27 March - 27 April) show that in Dudley, it's between Labour and Reform in the local elections. To prevent a Reform council fuelled by chaos, instability and division, vote Labour on 7 May. A vote for the Greens or the Lib Dems will only help Reform.

But these results also show Conservative resilience in urban areas, while Labour looks set to drift left and the Lib Dems have failed to break through. The route back means leading with the economy and the everyday issues that matter most to people.

I have spent my political career fighting against identity politics when it came from Labour, Lib Dems, or the SNP, and I will do exactly the same against identity politics when it comes from Reform UK. The answer to Black Lives Matter is not a White Lives Matter born of the same racial grievance. To fix this the Conservatives will stand up for the silent majority who want order, fairness, common sense, and one law for everyone.

The Conservatives cannot rebuild by chasing the 2019 coalition. That coalition has gone. The question now is simple: who is the party for? If the answer is angry populism, it gets smaller. If the answer is economic competence, serious government and broad centre-right values, there is a route back.
