Straight stretch of road, no cross street, clear of all traffic, including pedestrians. Not an issue. Rider now has good visibility with drivers, primary lane position, and a good head start on motoring traffic, which benefits drivers in the long run.

Speeding by cyclists is the issue. Their momentum makes them reluctant to stop. WHY we need speed limits for cyclists & IDs to fine rulebreakers. The only way. Because of their selfish irresponsible lycra lout behaviour, treating our roads like their private velodromes.
