It's basically happy hour for bears. 🐻🐟 Every summer, dozens of brown bears gather at Brooks Falls in Alaska's Katmai National Park, patiently waiting for sockeye salmon to make the leap.

Here is a short video of one of the 1st Klamath River salmon to make it to the tributaries above the former Iron Gate Dam. The clip was recorded last Friday by Yurok Fisheries Dept Geologist Kayah Ray, who is part of a team surveying salmon in the newly undammed river reach.

Did you know approximately 10.5 million pink salmon returned to the Fraser River this year? In fact, 2023’s pink run was much larger than originally forecasted. As many as 4 million additional fish made it back to the Fraser.

Brought my family to the Klamath River this weekend to join tribal leaders & allies to celebrate completion of the largest dam removal project in American history.🙌🏿🙌🏼🙌🏾 Here’s the Klamath River now: acting like a river, opening 400+ miles of salmon habitat.👇🏼

A single salmon contains around 4,500 calories, helping bears consume up to 60,000 calories a day 🎏 When fish are plentiful, bears often high-grade their meals by eating only the fattiest parts like the brain, skin, and eggs. 🐻
