We want to take a moment to applaud the courage of our CAIR-Texas team. The very next day after Governor Greg Abbott issued his unconstitutional and defamatory proclamation, the CAIR-Texas team went to work as usual while signing off on a federal lawsuit and preparing to testify at a state Board of Education hearing in defense of student rights. Before that hearing started, security warned members of our CAIR-Texas team that a suspicious individual had entered the building and demanded to know if any CAIR leaders were present. While this man was searching for our staff, the CAIR-Texas team was given the option of leaving the building with a police escort. They declined. Each of them stayed and delivered their testimony. As a civil rights organization, CAIR was founded to both shield the American Muslim community from hate and protect every American's right to exercise free speech, practice their own faith, and speak up for justice here and abroad. Being a shield means taking arrows. CAIR-Texas has been a shining example of courage under fire and an inspiration to our entire organization, alhamdulillah (praise and thanks to God). We applaud them, we stand with them, and we encourage all Americans to continue speaking up for due process, free speech, and religious freedom in the face of Greg Abbott's latest attempt to silence critics of a foreign government. In McKinney, the City Council’s cowardice was on full display when they voted to approve yet another mosque. As a former City Attorney and Council member, I know this: the attorney serves at the will of the Council. The Council serves at the will of the people. They should have started from the assumption that they would defend the Constitution and protect their citizens and instructed their attorney to find a way to do exactly that. Instead, they asked for the path of least resistance. They chose fear and hid behind their lawyer. The people of McKinney have every right to expect leaders who put the community first… and the right to remove those who refuse. It is time to elect patriots at every level. Cowardly, self-serving officeholders are reshaping our communities right before our eyes.

To the people of McKinney, Texas… Start a recall petition for every single councilman/councilwoman that did not listen to the people of McKinney. All it takes is a legal petition. Collect signatures of 30% of the voters that voted in the council members race (both R & D) in 45 days. You can remove them and a special election can be held to elect a council member who does the will of the people. The people of McKinney have to do this themselves, those who vote in McKinney. Visit the city managers office for the details and start the petition. If you start this petition (per the city guidelines) Texans will come help block walk or man signature locations to collect signatures. The people of McKinney need to hold their elected representatives accountable.
