The very next day after Governor Greg Abbott issued his unconstitutional and defamatory proclamation, the CAIR-Texas team went to work as usual while signing off on a federal lawsuit and preparing to testify at a state Board of Education hearing in defense of student rights. Before that hearing started, security warned members of our CAIR-Texas team that a suspicious individual had entered the building and demanded to know if any CAIR leaders were present. While this man was searching for our staff, the CAIR-Texas team was given the option of leaving the building with a police escort. They declined. Each of them stayed and delivered their testimony. As a civil rights organization, CAIR was founded to both shield the American Muslim community from hate and protect every American's right to exercise free speech, practice their own faith, and speak up for justice here and abroad.
