She’s technically right, in many places it’s actually illegal to pump your gas with the car running, with newer cars the risk is low but it’s still present. I am guilty of this especially when it’s hot or cold out, I rather just leave the car running and as soon as the pump starts. I will hop in the car to stay comfortable. I’ve never heard of or seen any fires caused by anyone leaving their car running, so for me the threat doesn’t exists. I argue that manipulating a safety is not only a low-skill requirement action but also a necessary task to prevent an accidental or negligent manipulation of that trigger.
