NAF ENGINEERS DEMONSTRATE EXCEPTIONAL EXPERTISE BY REVIVING AIRCRAFT GROUNDED FOR 23 YEARS In a phenomenal display of engineering ingenuity, aircraft engineers and technicians of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have accomplished the remarkable feat of reactivating a Dornier DO-228 aircraft, which had been grounded for 23 years. This achievement underscores NAF’s growing capacity for indigenous maintenance to bolster its operational readiness, whilst contributing to Nigeria’s inherent aviation capabilities. The aircraft, originally designated "5N-MPS" and operated by the now defunct Ministry of Mines, Power, and Steel, had been grounded at the DANA facility in Kaduna since 2001. However, sequel to a Presidential Directive for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to transfer such grounded platforms to the NAF for evaluation and possible reactivation, the NAF initiated this project. The NAF took on the challenge of reactivating this aircraft, a Dash 201 Series with only 1,081 flight hours since new, considering the task a unique opportunity to restore a valuable national asset. The reactivation process, for the grounded aircraft - redesignated “NAF-039” - was conducted between June and September 2024, involving meticulous planning and painstaking execution by a crack team of 5 engineering officers and 40 technicians from the NAF 431 Engineering Group (Engr Gp), Kaduna. This accomplishment, which required the application of advanced engineering techniques and adherence to stringent aviation standards, attests to the NAF’s growing technical expertise and resolute determination. The success of this project carries significant strategic implications, bearing in mind that, beyond enhancing the NAF’s fleet, it symbolises the Service’s resolve to achieve self-reliance in aviation maintenance for operational effectiveness. It also serves as a morale booster for the NAF engineers and technicians, showcasing their ability to undertake complex projects which otherwise would be outsourced to foreign entities. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, lauded the 431 Engr Gp for their dedication, and emphasised the broader import of the achievement. He noted that the project reflects NAF’s resolve to optimise resources, strengthen its fleet, and uphold national security through operational excellence. “The successful reactivation of NAF 039 is not just an operational gain; it is a statement of our capabilities and our commitment to self-reliance,” he added. Significantly, this accomplishment builds upon the NAF’s earlier successes, such as the conduct of the first in-country 4,800-hour inspection on another DO-228 aircraft in January 2024. Together, these milestones highlight the NAF’s growing capacity for advanced in-house aircraft maintenance, and serve as a foundation for future projects aimed at achieving technical autonomy. The reactivation of NAF-039 after 23 years is more than an engineering achievement; it showcases the NAF's ingenuity, resilience, and commitment to operational excellence. It also reaffirms the Air Force’s vital role in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, while highlighting its dedication to resource optimisation and self-reliance. While Japan’s advanced E10 Shinkansen trains are expected in the early 2030s, both countries have pragmatically agreed that services will begin with Indian-developed high-speed trainsets instead of waiting. The message is clear: deliver results first, while simultaneously building India’s indigenous high-speed rail capabilities. The benefits are immense: • It will connect India’s financial capital, Mumbai, with one of its fastest-growing commercial hubs, Ahmedabad, in a fraction of the current travel time. • Cities like Surat, the world’s diamond processing capital, and Vapi, a major industrial and chemical manufacturing hub, will be seamlessly integrated into a high-speed economic corridor. • Travel time will be cut by over four hours, making business travel, investment, tourism and regional connectivity far more efficient. • The project will strengthen manufacturing, create skilled jobs, enhance logistics and accelerate economic integration across one of India’s most productive regions. This is what nation-building looks like: combining global partnerships with Indian innovation, ensuring world-class infrastructure while strengthening domestic technological capability. Addressing hundreds of Ghanaians, investors, professionals and business leaders at the Ghana Diaspora Town Hall Meeting in London, President Mahama outlined his administration’s vision for transforming Ghana from an exporter of raw materials into a modern industrial economy powered by value addition and local production. Speaking passionately about the future of Ghana’s energy sector, President Mahama disclosed that the government is aggressively expanding offshore oil and gas production while simultaneously ensuring that the country develops the capacity to process more of its natural resources domestically. According to the President, Ghana has secured major upstream investments, including a fresh commitment of approximately US$1.5 billion from ENI in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) Field to increase the production of both oil and natural gas. However, he stressed that increased production alone is not enough. “We are about to make history again. We did it during my first term, but after we left office it did not continue. The finished products are then exported back to us. That model cannot deliver sustainable prosperity,” he said. Obesity alone is linked to 13 types of cancer and cuts life expectancy by 3–10 years, depending on severity. It promotes DNA damage and accelerates our fundamental aging process—often measured by epigenetic age. It’s one of the principal differences between the U.S. and many of the world’s longest-lived nations. We’re overfed but undernourished. 60% of all calories Americans consume come from ultra-processed foods that: • Fail to induce proper satiety, pushing us to overeat. • Remain cheaper than whole foods, economically incentivizing the least healthy choices. • Hijack our dopamine reward pathways, reinforcing addictive eating behaviors. This trifecta—no satiety, low cost, and built-in addictiveness—keeps us in a cycle of poor health outcomes and runaway healthcare costs. But caloric excess is only part of the problem—we are also nutrient-deficient. Low omega-3 levels—affecting 80 to 90% of Americans—carry the same mortality risk as smoking. Vitamin D deficiency—easily corrected—compromises immune function, cognition, and longevity. If we want to prevent muscle loss and frailty, we must update our protein recommendations and prioritize strength training. We must foster a culture of American exceptionalism built on daily, effortful exercise. Not as an afterthought. Not as a luxury. But as a non-negotiable foundation for aging, but also clear thinking, resilience, and even leadership. The body and brain are not separate. The consequences of poorly regulated blood sugar, sedentary living, and muscle loss are not just physical—they affect cognition, judgment, and resilience. In a world where Western energy has become increasingly expensive, the Chinese government demonstrated strategic skill by securing major deals that further enhanced its industrial competitiveness, an advantage the West now seeks to dismantle by force. After effectively removing Venezuela from the board, Washington authorized Chinese purchases of Venezuelan oil but only at fair market prices, eliminating discounts. This reveals one of the objectives that has so far been little discussed by political and military analysts. With Venezuela largely out of the game as a source of discounted oil, Washington is now focusing on Iran. If the Persians suffer a similar fate, it would impact Chinese industrial competitiveness, leaving Beijing almost exclusively dependent on cheaper Russian oil and facing greater difficulty in securing significant discounts. The irony is that these discounts only exist because the West imposed sanctions on these countries, and only now has it realized that, in doing so, it has been favoring its greatest rival: China. To achieve that, however, the Americans would face an extremely tough challenge: overcoming Iran’s naval defenses at a time when Tehran is in survival mode and likely to fight with everything it has. What the Americans are not taking into account is that, in a scenario involving a real risk of a US and Israel sponsored insurgency, the Chinese would massively intervene in the conflict to safeguard their interests and protect their important ally.

Out of this, 853 square kilometres, that is 92 percent of the entire island, is constitutionally protected as Tribal Reserve under the 1956 regulation. The project footprint is 166 square kilometres. That is roughly 18 percent of the island, and the tribal reserve remains overwhelmingly intact. The tribal population Rahul Gandhi is suddenly weeping for is approximately 1,200. Decades have gone by since his time, but he continues to serve as a beacon of light to millions of our countrymen and women. It is inevitable that such a monumental figure will have his life and work analysed and critiqued — and that is indeed as it should be. Although the temptation to divorce him from his times and the challenges that he had to face and to look at him, devoid of the historical context in which he functioned has become quite widespread. Yet, while we welcome ongoing analysis of his contributions, what is not acceptable is the systematic attempt being made to denigrate, distort, demean and defame him. The sole objective of this is to not only diminish him as a personality but also his universally recognised role in India's independence struggle and his early decades as a leader of an independent nation challenged by unprecedented problems, but it is also to demolish his multifaceted legacy in a crude and self-serving attempt to rewrite history. Analysis is one thing, but deliberate mischief with what he said, what he wrote and what he did is another thing and totally unacceptable. And who are the forces that have launched this project? We all know that they have worked for years and years—for decades—and finally, here they are. They belong to an ideology that had no role whatsoever in our freedom movement, that had no role whatsoever in the making of our Constitution. In fact, they even burnt it and were totally against it. It is an ideology that long ago fanned an atmosphere of hate that ultimately led to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi ji. His killers today continue to be glorified by its adherents. It is an ideology that has consistently rejected the ideals of our founding fathers. It is an ideology with a bigoted and viciously communal outlook. Its approach to nationhood is based on stoking prejudices of all kinds. Let there be no doubt whatsoever that the project to vilify Jawaharlal Nehru ji is the main objective of the ruling establishment today. Their goal is not just to erase him; it is actually to destroy the social, political, and economic foundations on which our nation has been founded and built. The road ahead is not easy. But there is simply no option but for each one of us, individually and collectively, to stand up and confront this project. We not only owe it to the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru ji and his comrades—we owe it to ourselves, and even more to the coming generations. The unapologetic and fierce defence of the Nehruvian legacy is not an act of nostalgia. It is a commitment to restoring India's constitutional promise, to safeguarding reason in the face of propaganda, and to ensuring that our republic remains modern and forward-looking. If we succeed, it will not only honour Jawaharlal Nehru ji's memory; it will ensure that the India he envisioned remains a reality. At a time when tolerance in public life is shrinking, when dissent is painted as disloyalty, and history is reduced to partisan combat, Nehru ji's example becomes even more vital. He taught us that disagreement is not a threat but a democratic necessity—that unity does not demand uniformity; that a confident nation need not fear the truth about its past. Friends, there is some reason for hope. Last month, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund also launched an archive which can be accessed at The archive is an easily searchable and freely downloadable digital archive—also, by the way, accessible on your smartphone. At present, it covers the hundred published volumes of his selected works, covering the period from 1903 till the day before he died. The archive will continue to expand. So, there it will be for you all to access any time you want to know something about what he said, what he wrote, or what he did. Sandeep Dixit's initiative, which has brought all of us here this evening, is another sincere attempt to take on this challenge of rescuing Nehru ji from the web of deception. And we need many, many more such initiatives across the length and breadth of our country.
