Tail skid system explanation by Stig Aviation ✈️ Believe it or not … you’ll find this under ATA 32 .. It’s a very rudimentary and simple system, designed to simply protect the aircraft. Take for example the 737, it’s more of a visual inspection, the more advanced aircraft have electrical signals that will send information to the flight deck that a tail strike has occurred. Let’s take for example the 777, some of them have a tail skid, but all of them have a tail strike sensor. To simply put it’s basically two little wires encased inside of a fin on the belly of the tail. If a tailstrike occurs, the fin Will break and open a circuit, sending this information to the flight deck. Overall tail strike incidents are very rare, because pilots train over and over to perfect their flying. That being said you also have aircraft computer systems to assist. But there are times where bad weather conditions will cause this occurrence, but once again the airplane can handle it. Not an ad

I finished up work at a reasonable time, around 4:30pm. I checked on the 3 black kittens: Scooter (no rail), Scotty (1/2 a tail), and Sammy (full tail). Also put food in the attic just in case the white angel kitten is real, then sat on the couch. Skippy wasted no time hopping on my shoulder. Purring at first, then completely conked out.

$The comet tail is noticeably longer each day. Pause the video at about 15 seconds . . . you can see the tail of the comet looks like it is bending. The atmosphere is more dense the closer you get to earth. Changes in the density of the atmosphere change the refractive index and thus make the comet tail appear bent. I was in my crew quarters reviewing the imagery when I first saw the bend in the comet’s tail. I did not see it real time when taking the images. I yelled out the door to Don Pettit to check it out but he was already off to take more images of the comet with an IR camera . . . look forward to those. Video is a timelapse played at 8 frames per second. Images were taken with a 1/8 sec exposure with about 5ms in between shots so this timelapse should be about the same speed as we see it out the window. Canadarm2 is in the near field, upper left, and out of focus. 200mm, 1/8s, ISO 5000$

A Bell 222 (think Airwolf) has crashed in Huntington Beach, California this afternoon. N222EX is well know to visit local car shows and charity events in SoCal. You can see the tail rotor start to change directions in the video and a fast clockwise rotation starts meaning tail rotor authority has been lost. This is the absolute worst time to lose a tail rotor. In forward flight you have a chance but near zero airspeed, it’s next to impossible to fly the aircraft out of it. Latest report is it was just the pilot onboard and he is alive with injures. Pray🙏 🎥sip this ☕️
