reflecting on furry racism

Holy LARP. I was on VRC in a public lobby and got called probably 12 different racial slurs by some 15 year old. My entire reaction was “lol k” I will never understand how y’all can be chronically online enough to play VRC and that soft at the same time. Before y’all pull the race card to justify being upset, I’m not white either lol.

Being a white furry, I can't speak for anyone else. However, I do see black furries - whether they're content creators or just simply existing in the fandom - get called horrible things and/or treated differently than white furries to his day. It's genuinely depressing.

I'm honestly so glad that these videos were made. It gave me the courage to speak my mind in another community I frequent to bring change. Speak yo minds and have those communities be truly all-inclusive and welcoming to ALL cultures, no matter of background.

im really glad. there's SO MUCH INJUSTICE in this world, both within and outside of VR. people are made to be silent because they think they will be alone. and i understand the feeling, but we HAVE to say something when we see something. we must.

It's so important to keep speaking up about racism in the fandom. So many people will not even when they know someone is out of line, and it normalises the behaviour. But if there is any space that can overcome discrimination it's here, I know we can be better.

I met this racist furry on Twitter believe it or not. He had a pic of himself on the football field as his pfp and he kept blaming everything on the Jews. Smh

It’s good that you’re speaking up though. I feel like opening that dialogue is hard but important to have people willing to claim that space and let people know there are issues happening.
