We typically use ~40% of repRM as a starting point for these, with goal to ‘stick the landing’, minimizing time from 1st impact to ‘stabilization’ Some great research on this was by @DebsSides w. my sprint group back in 2011-2012 [BSqdrop is the refECC]

BTW — this work is part of @DebsSides’ awesome thesis, exploring the kinematics and kinetics of maximal velocity sprinting and specificity of training in elite athletes. This is a must-read if you are interested in speed in sport

One interesting lesson I learned from implementing these with sprinters: I needed to take them out of the program as we moved into higher on-track velocities. It seemed like they were competing for similar adaptations.

This didn’t seem to be an issue with bobsledders, who don’t hit the same velocities on the track. While refECC was the primary exercise type during a competitive bobbled season, we had to go to more concentric-based work with sprinters @ALTIS @ALTISEdu

@ALTIS @ALTISEdu @JordanStrength Been using these with our Volleyball athletes (outside hitters mainly) for a few years and seeing positive trends in knee/ankle/hip health, but also some cross over towards jump height improvements for some. A fairly unexplored avenue within volleyball to my knowledge

@ALTIS @ALTISEdu @JordanStrength After an ECC, there is a CON with high impulse (in almost every sport modality). Jump training and shock method stimulate the adaptation required for both. I understand the need to concentrate the stimulus in some blocks, but it seems that plyo are superior.

@ALTIS @ALTISEdu @JordanStrength Could you do this with some sort of stimulus cueing the exercise like a whistle to build in a reactive component to the rapid eccentric loading?

@ALTIS @ALTISEdu @JordanStrength I mean you can — but I’m not sure of the justification. We already ask them to stop as fast as they can. And RT pretty specific to the task anyway

@ALTIS @ALTISEdu @JordanStrength This is something we haven’t tested, but have always been guided by the ‘15-20% [ish] either side’ heuristic of isometric joint-angle specificity, as offered by many.
