Effectively, it will be 5% and 18% percent. 12% and 28% have been abolished. There will be 40% on luxury goods."

Items on which GST has been reduced to 5%- hair oil, toilet soap, soap bars, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bicycles, tableware, kitchenware, and other household articles." Items on which GST has been reduced to zero from 5 %-- Ultra-high temperature milk, chena and paneer. All the Indian breads will see a nil rate. So roti or paratha or whatever it is, they all come to nil. Reduction of GST from 12% or from 18 % to 5-- Food items- Namkeen, bujjiya, sauces, pasta, instant noodles, chocolates, coffee, preserved meat, cornflakes, butter, ghee, all these are in 5%. Reduction from 28 % to 18%- Air conditioning machines, TVs which are over 32 inches, all TVs now at 18%, Dishwashing machines, small cars, motorcycles equal to or less than 350 cc are all now coming to 18 %."

Maharashtra: The GST Capital of India! Attended the 9th GST Day Celebrations 2026 in Mumbai, today. Nine Remarkable Years of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) mark a transformative milestone in India's economic journey. Introduced under the leadership of Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji through the vision of 'One Nation, One Tax', GST marked a historic turning point in India's tax reforms. The invaluable contribution of the late Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley ji in shaping this landmark reform will always be remembered. Another moment in this transformational journey has been the establishment of the GST Council, one of the most significant pillars of the GST framework and a true example of cooperative federalism, where the Centre and the States collectively take consensus-based decisions. Maharashtra has consistently remained at the forefront of GST implementation and has emerged as the GST Capital of India. Maharashtra continues to register unprecedented growth in GST collections. During the last financial year, the State received nearly ₹1.87 lakh crore as its GST share. Maharashtra remains the highest GST-contributing State in the country, with GST collections exceeding the combined collections of Karnataka and Gujarat, the States ranked second and third. If we combine the income tax exemption & the GST exemption, these decisions made in one year will ensure savings of more than Rs 2.5 Lakh Crore for our citizens. As part of the Rajya Sabha Select Committee, I worked to ensure it was technology-driven, transparent, and supportive of MSMEs, startups, and ordinary citizens. In parliamentary debate and after, I had predicted that as compliance increases, rates will reduce and consumers will benefit. That has always been at the heart of PM Narendra Modi ji's multi-year vision and reforms - delivering sustainable benefits to all people. The upcoming reforms mark the next stage in the evolution of GST: simpler slabs, lower rates, catalyzing lower costs for ordinary citizens.
