The Taoiseach’s decision to exclude services from the Occupied Territories Bill is unacceptable. Nearly 70% of Ireland’s trade with the occupied territories is in services. So Micheál Martin seeks to weaken the intent of the Bill. We won’t stand for it. Israel must be sanctioned. We need the Occupied Territories Bill passed and it must include services!

Last week, the Government's version of the Occupied Territories passed through the Seanad, and will soon be law. I want to sincerely thank all the campaigners who pushed the Govt so hard, but to also be very clear that this is not enough. It is not the OTB I first tabled in 2018, and by exempting services from the Bill we have failed to show the ambition required. But this is not the end. I used my speech last week to set the record straight on services, and make clear that we will keep going. "I urge the Government to be brave, to accept these amendments, and ban trade in services as international law requires. We cannot just wait on an EU ban that may never come. If we are not successful today, I will be back in this House in September to move legislation to extend the ban to include services. We will keep going as long as we need to – until both our moral and legal obligations are met."

Empowering Citizens: Celebrating 10 Years of Maharashtra's Right to Public Services Act Addressed a program marking the decade of the implementation of the 'Maharashtra Right to Public Service Act, 2015' and the first 'Right to Services Day'. When the system fails to honour the rights of citizens, it's essential that these rights are safeguarded through legislation, empowering citizens to seek redressal. As CM in previous tenure, one of my first decisions was to introduce the Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act during the first cabinet meeting. Today, over 1000 services have been notified under this Act, with 550 to 600 services already available online. We aim to bring another 300 services online soon, and 125 services are currently online but not yet accessible through the common portal. A deadline of August 15, 2025 has been set for full integration. A fine of ₹1,000 will be imposed on the concerned officer for each service per day beyond the defined delivery time. We are also upgrading our Government Portal to provide easier access to services. The vision behind this law is simple: ensuring that every citizen who seeks justice can get it where they need it. If justice is denied, we’ve built a system of appeal and penalty to ensure accountability. We’ve also signed MoU with Meta to bring governance to WhatsApp, simplifying access and improving the ease of living for the common man. To spread awareness and ensure the Right to Services is deeply ingrained in our society, we must incorporate it into school curriculum. Just like how Right to Information Act has empowered citizens, we strive to ensure that the Maharashtra Right to Public Services Act similarly empowers them. The star power of Shankar Mahadevan and Sonali Kulkarni, the brand ambassadors, will help us reach every corner of the State, making governance more people-centric, transparent, and dynamic. ‘it is.’ was released 10 years ago today. The album to me was meant to talk about what everything is. It just ‘is’. Whether you do it or don’t. So why not do it? “You are a human being, so ‘be’.” Things will continue to change around me as well as within me. All I can do is try to be what I want to be more and more everyday. And continue to send out my communications through music. I’m grateful to everyone that has received and/or will receive the messages in the future. Thank you to all who have supported and will support in the future — love y’all.

Speculation that the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Rhoose will be used to house Afghans is deeply concerning. I've been contacted by several constituents about this, who are understandably and legitimately concerned. There have also been several reports on social media. As an elected member representing the area, authorities have told me nothing about this. To the best of my knowledge, there has been no public statement issued by the Ministry of Defence. This is unacceptable. Speculation has been ongoing for several days, and an information vacuum has inevitably developed. I therefore wanted to take the opportunity to explain the actions I have undertaken to address this. I have written to the MOD asking them to clarify the situation urgently. To clarify my position, if speculation is correct, I would strongly and categorically oppose the hotel being used for suggested purpose. It is not suitable to provide accomodation of this nature. The hotel was built to provide accomodation for airport passengers. As a result, the vast majority of guests would, in practice, stay at the hotel for a maximum of one night, either before or after their flight. As such, they would not access local NHS services, schools or other public services. This would not be the case if the hotel is used in the manner suggested. By contrast, it would put huge pressure on local amenities and other public services. It is also situated close to a new college that is set to open. If the reports are true, then the plans would have been developed without any consultation with residents. This too would be unacceptable. They should be afforded the opportunity to provide feedback, have their say and raise any concerns they may have. When I receive further updates, I will update residents accordingly. Be assured I will always put the local community first.

It was very good to be in the House of Lords yesterday to participate in the debate on funding of hospices, and listen to expert perspectives. Palliative and end of life care services provide essential and high-quality care, and it is vital that they are resourced sufficiently to continue to do so. This must be our immediate action before we even consider a change in the law on assisted suicide.

The Constitution guarantees every Kenyan the right to quality, affordable healthcare. In line with the President's directive and our commitment to the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Agenda, all outpatient services in every health facility must now be provided free of charge. Any facility that continues to charge Kenyans for outpatient services is in violation of this directive and the Constitution and will face firm legal consequences.

Anyone starting a job will need to show the so-called 'Brit-card' to prove they have the right to live and work in the UK. Sir Keir Starmer claims the scheme will help to deter migrants from crossing the channel illegally in small boats. He says it will also offer Britons other benefits, such as accessing public services more quickly. Lorna Shaddick reports.
