You should try and get hired to breakdown goals for the Kings. It would be a do nothing job!

🙌 just missin the mic and we’re set

Thanks! This is great - please do more! Also, on a delayed penalty, why don’t the defending team D just stand up on the blue line and force a dump in, since a simple touch kills the play? Seems better than letting them enter with possession.

Good question. Lots of reasons. If the defensemen try to make a stand at the blue line standing still, they’re sitting ducks. With a delayed penalty, like in this video, often times teams are able to generate a lot of speed. If you try to hold the blue and lunge forward, they’ll blow right by. You might get lucky and get a piece of them or get a touch on the puck every once in awhile, but the risk isn’t worth the reward. Guys are too good. If you’re fortunate enough to force a dump, guys are smart enough to dump a hard rim to another forechecker that’s coming with speed who can pick up possession before the other defenseman also trying to hold the blue line can turn around and get a touch on the puck. Holy run-on sentence, but hopefully you get the point!

As a causal but avid fan, I love learning about the decisions the players are making in order to create opportunity. Thanks for the breakdown! More please!

Great breakdown, little things like Hanifan’s route wasn’t something I saw at first. Audio is a little quiet Alec, may want to up that a little on the next one. Looking forward to more!

Great breakdown

Boom! Good start, as a non hockey player that likes to watch hockey, I always like learning! Let’s do more!

Really fascinating to watch. I go to a lot of games and had no idea this level of strategy is going on. How much of it is instinct vs deliberate thought. Like is Hanifin thinking, "I need to push this guy to make room for Stone", or does he just do that naturally?

@amartinez_27 that was very informative. I kept thinking you should take from Paul Harvey and call these segments “the rest of the story”. You start with the Goal, but then reveal the story of how it took form.

Amazing so many things happened in 14 seconds that you picked up. And I never knew forecheckers were taught to push a player, set up behind the net, out on his backhand. Well done!

I think you may have found your lane, sir. There's not a lot of this kind of hockey analysis readily available. I'm all in.

Love this, man. The game needs more of this.

Alec, i’d love to get some Kings breakdowns! This team feels very similar to the cup winning teams but i could be wrong, big fan of yours “Champ”! Go kings go!!

Thanks, Alec. This is great material. Well done.

We love you Marty, miss you in LA!

Love this. Can’t wait for more of these

More of this please!

I’m gonna need more of this. Obviously, I know it was a good goal but until this I couldn’t tell you why. Thanks for highlighting with the red boxes also. Makes words in the story become super visual.

amazing stuff, really eager for someone to make content as a pro of the highest level. reminds me of Nico Rosberg of F1 having a youtube channel. could do with some microphone gain tho

Would love if u did these breakdowns for Miami university games as well, theyve been having their best year in a while and we rlly need alum support in any way/shape/form to keep building the program

Thanks for the breakdown. You will be my “Manning Brothers” on hockey. 👍

I like what you're thinking in doing this. But Werenski and Provorov weren't on the ice together in this play. They are both left shot guys and you can clearly see one of the d men is a right shot.

Love this. Subscribed to see more of your breakdowns!

Thank you Alec. Very interesting. Agree about Stone, high hockey I.Q.

@RyanHockeyGuy I appreciate you doing this 👏🏼👊🏼🏒🥅

Definitely appreciate the extra time to really break down the details of a play. Congrats on the new phase of your career, I have many fond memories of you in a Kings uniform!

Great breakdown

So what do you do if you're CBJ? Not chase? Seems like they were doomed either way

This is GREAT!!!

you gonna start a YouTube channel?

Once Hanifin passes the puck to Eichel, the forechecker immediately waves to the bench and skates off, Hanifin notices and pushes up to get the drop pass. If you're Columbus do you want your forechecker to go for a change like that or only after taking up space on the O blue line

The Right D was actually Severson. Great content though I’ve been looking for more stuff like this 👍

Could you please upload these to YouTube? That'd be amazing!

Fantastic breakdown for us non-technical hockey fans! We enjoy watching you on the KnightTime pregames, and look forward to seeing more of this. GKG!

Awesome breakdown, super interesting seeing how that neutral zone space Stone created became offensive zone space.
