Yesterday, U.S. Coast Guard commissioned the Fast Response Cutter Earl Cunningham, honoring Boatswain’s Mate Second Class Earl Cunningham, who gave his life in 1936 during a heroic rescue on Lake Michigan. Cunningham’s courage and legacy now inspire the mission of this cutter, which will strengthen our capabilities to defend Alaska’s maritime border and respond to crises.
