They had been preparing this attack for several days, stockpiling missiles. The threat, of course, remains even now, and this must be taken into account. Russia is placing its wagers on ballistic missiles, and it is because of them that Putin still believes in his war. It is very important that our partners understand what is happening and that air defense missiles are needed to protect lives literally every single day. It is important to accelerate everything – both with our European partners and with the United States.

Strait of Hormuz over the last 48 hours: Back to the start. As the war rages on, Fujairah as the main tanker shuttle port is all but dead after the IRGC fired missiles at two VLCCs, the first escalation of its type yesterday. Even with US protection, it was not enough, and this is going to take ~6 million b/d of flow out of the market. To further add to my point that the escalation is increasing, this segment from the WSJ article is very concerning: "There was also concern among shippers that the scope of Iran’s attacks was widening away from the immediate vicinity of the strait after a vessel was targeted off Oman early Tuesday, according to its owner, London-based Stolt-Nielsen. It had not crossed the strait at all and was loaded with Omani chemicals headed to Malaysia, according to Kpler." We are in no-man's land now. Either Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz or it doesn't. It's all-or-nothing. I have included the video from MarineTraffic.

Russia would not have a single missile or most of its drones, and therefore would not be able to cause significant damage to our energy sector, if they were unable to purchase or somehow import Western-made components for missiles and "shaheds", as well as components and machinery from South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Unfortunately, many critical components are still being supplied to Russia from Europe and the US. And we are not talking about a dozen components, but hundreds of thousands of components, purely commercial supplies. The direct consequence of all this is that the Russians are terrorizing our country, threatening other countries, behaving despicably, and refusing to make peace. There are specific points that must be pressured. And we are doing everything to make that pressure work. The world has the power to stop terror – any terror – and Russia is no exception.

Everyone sees how Russia tries to freeze Ukrainians – our people – to death at –20°C. But Russia couldn’t build any ballistic or cruise missiles without critical components from other countries. I thank every country and every company that helps Ukraine repair its energy system. This is crucial. Thank you to all who support the PURL program, helping us buy Patriot missiles. But wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to just cut Russia off from the components it needs for missile production? Or even destroy the factories making them?

We all see that Putin is now relying on one last thing: constant missile attacks. He has ballistic missiles. So we need anti-ballistic capabilities. We’ve done a lot to defend against drones, and our interception rate is above 90 percent. That is a serious achievement. We are also defending against cruise missiles. But Russian ballistic missiles remain a problem, and we need an answer to that problem. Our anti-ballistic coalition – all the countries that are part of it – must demonstrate full capability and deliver real results – better this year. By this winter, we should already see concrete outcomes from our joint work on anti-ballistic defense. From a speech at the 35th UDCG meeting. (1/3)
