Remarkable speech from Pam Duncan-Glancy (Independent): “There will be countless disabled people in our constituencies who haven’t had the choice to have a shower in weeks. People who can’t choose when they go to bed. Some who will already be in bed. “People who can’t choose what to eat....

First it will be terminally ill people, then disabled and then people with mental illness. The progressive left can’t help themselves.

That would be my wife - blind and bedridden. I don't entertain that crap, and neither should our parliament. She is content, and loved. But those bastards would want to kill her if she was not. I hate them.

This is a false argument, preventing those that are terminally ill choosing to die with dignity won’t improve social packages of care for disabled

It's safe to assume that those who did not clap & appreciate Pam's words are voting for it.

It should NEVER have come to this - people - especially those having lived experience of the reality - needing to defend against state assault on the right to live. But Pam Duncan-Glancy has spoken well. Pro assisted dying acolytes should be ashamed they need to hear this.

Which part of, it is only available to people with a terminal diagnosis that qualify, that's it, TERMINAL DIAGNOSIS. they are NOT going to just put down any Tom Dick or Harry🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇵

Mate - she chose freindship with a convicted paedophile over public service ??? She also "took a break from public life" when Labour pumped disabled folk - abandoned them.... Is this really your reference point ?

She voted to cut disability benefits, is best pals with a nonce, and is bringing people into this argument who aren't even included in the bill. Sit doon.

Always trying to make it about herself...it's not, it's about people having a choice who are terminally ill, who don't want to go to hospice or have strangers come to their house when they get near to the end of their lives and who want to choose not to have a stage managed death

It’s about very strictly defined terminally ill conditions, with very limited life, for those few in horrifically painful conditions - where palliative care is of no use It’s not about choice on a whim. Or choice through coercion. Or choice based on mental exhaustion So sad

@CHistorians This is so sad and frightening. I hate that people genuinely in need are experiencing this while others abuse the welfare system. She is right. They must vote against this.

@lillywinter10 She appears to be conflating insufficient funding for disabled people to give them more life choices and those with a terminal diagnosis Yet she voted to cut disabled people’s benefits.

This is an argument against assisted suicide which pretty much everyone agrees is wrong. This does not address assisted dying for the terminally ill - entirely different matter

A very powerful speech highlighting that's what's needed is not coercive suicide but rather sufficient support for disabled ppl.

All very good and well however wtf does social care provision have to do with individuals approaching end of life and wish the option of medical assistance to go at a time of their choosing.

"If this bill passes it will be easier to access help to die than help to live." Really? Zero-sum pessimism won't help anyone. Some very strong arguments against the bill were aired, but this isn't one. We could have #AssistedDying and decent healthcare and palliative care.

A good point, well made Ask of which is the fault of politicians choices in the past Does that mean others for whom modern healthcare CAN'T make the death process tolerable must just endure their ongoing suffering until they die?

Eloquently and accurately spoken. Pam speaks for me. Unless this is you, it’s truly impossible to grasp the realities of a life lived like this. I have lifelong, complex chronic illness. As my health, disability and QOL have decreased, so too has my agency.

@CharlotteCGill Many in your constituency that no matter how much pain they are in, coming to the end of their days will now have no other choice than to suffer the pain & anguish that having no choice means. I bet all who are against think they are compassionate people, they are so, so wrong.
