“My Family Knows What Happens When the Cop Doesn’t Shoot” Everyone talks about “lived experience” — but that concept goes out the window the moment a police shooting occurs. Because almost no one offering an opinion has lived that experience: standing in front of a moving vehicle, gun drawn, knowing the next second is life or death. So here’s mine. My older brother lived that moment. He stood in front of a car at night during a felony stop. Gun drawn. And when he saw a shadow in the back seat, he made a conscious decision. He hesitated on purpose. Not because he froze. Not because he panicked. But because he believed there might be a child in that car — and he chose, willingly, to sacrifice himself rather than risk that child’s life. He understood exactly what the decision was. Life or death. And he chose death. The shadow turned out to be nothing. The car wasn’t. He was hit, dragged, and thrown. His leg dislocated. His spine was destroyed. In an era when “calling the police” on kids simply playing can divide a community, escalate a situation, or even put lives at risk, here is to those who find another way. Who turn conflict into connection. A complaint into community. A tense moment into an opportunity for joy. And here is to Shaq. I had the honor of working with him on many projects in Newark. What always stood out to me wasn’t his celebrity or even his larger-than-life presence. It was his humanity. For someone who commands so much attention, he has a remarkable gift for giving it to others. For making people, especially young people, feel special, worthy, capable, and seen. There is grace in that. A noise complaint brought the police. The police brought Shaq. And what could have become a moment of division became basketball, laughter, connection, and community. It really happened! A couple who used to go dancing at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool visited the venue one last time, thanks to their granddaughter's online plea. Olivia Watts reached out for help on TikTok in a bid to get her grandparents to the Tower Ballroom before her grandfather - who has Alzheimer's disease - goes into a care home. Ron Hill, 82, headed up the entertainment at the Empire Hotel in the resort for 20 years, until 1986, and he and his wife Marilyn, 80, would often enjoy a dance together in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. This morning, they were welcomed back for a private dance accompanied by the resident organist - and Ron even had the chance to try his hand at the famous Wurlitzer organ! So when he appeared on the podcast this week, Joe Marler, asked him the most generic question one asks to anyone who "founded" any organisation: “Can you explain for those who don’t know, what the Invictus Games are?” JJ Chalmers, who had been answering all the questions requiring a little articulation and knowledge for Harry, turned to Harry for that question that should be an easy walk in the park for the "Founder" of Invictus, and told him: "you do this one". Well, Lo and behold...Harry looked as dumbfounded as someone who has NEVER heard of Invictus😵‍💫 Unable to answer Harry, insisted Chalmers answer it: "No you go first, you go first..." "You go first?!" How do you create and patron an organisation for 12 years and you cannot answer a simple generic question about what the organisation is about???! 🤡🎪🤹‍♂️ Time and time again, Harry proves what a complete fraud he is. This is the best story EVER ❤️ Cam Booser is a pitcher who made his MLB Debut for the Boston Red Sox in April 2024. But this wasn’t any “ordinary” debut… Cam has had many ups and downs in his career, and at one point, he even retired from baseball to pursue a career as a carpenter in his father’s business. However, Cam missed baseball, and when he realized he could still throw a 98mph fastball, he unretired to pursue his baseball dream once again. At the age of 31, Cam’s dream finally came true as he made his MLB Debut. So of course, when Cam saw his 1/1 Debut Patch autograph card get pulled, he immediately reached out to the new owner to try to buy it. To Cam’s surprise, the owner refused to sell it to him, as the card had apparently already been sold to a new owner. Cam was initially disappointed, but little did he know that his OWN SISTER was the buyer, who planned to give him the card as a Christmas present. 🎁 And this moment, caught on camera, is when the big surprise was revealed!! ❤️
