They were against it, but no one listened to them. With the deaths of Gaddafi and Hussein, Putin changed his policy and intervened in Syria. He did not allow Assad to be killed and started helping Africa with China

Putin talking alot of sense. I remember my father having the same arguments. He was totally against regime change by external forces. He would question the morality and rationale behind it. I now see alot of sense in it(Let regimes die their natural deaths without interfering).

I remember, and that's when Putin knew "the west" and the United Nations were just tools for the war-mongering bureaucrats in Washington. Soon later they began sowing the seeds of conflict in Ukraine after he spoke out against it.
