I always found it neat they made both Ethan AND Jimmy (who is also "Ethan" from GSC) canon to the anime. I guess they wanted to match Marina (Kris) and Lyra since they were both in the anime. So why not both male protagonists too.

This movie was literally a sample for the alternate universe. Notice how Donphan came out of its poke ball?! That wasn't a white light and does Pikachu's Iron Tail have a blue tint?

They should showcase Ash battling more trainer protagonists in the anime this would've been a way more interesting plot in the series
