Unfortunately this can be observed in multiple countries in Europe now. The local population is afraid and ashamed to be patriotic about their country. The left has completed captured the "social science" departments of all major universities in Europe. Very many of the people inhabiting a position of power in media or government will have gone to some extent through this left-wing propaganda machine. The universities display themselves very open but most of the literature as well as teaching staff are left leaning and will push this propaganda. It might not be completely obvious to them and the students as there is very little right leaning material, nationalist or anti globalist material available. These people will start putting leaning systems, strategies, projects in place. The outcome of this is that the media, structures and practices that guide the populace will condition people to feel ashamed of their country as this is what the socialist elite has put in place. In most cases this is happening unknowingly as most people were never made aware of a more right leaning understanding of society and the world.
