In the 2023 election, National won voters over by promising tax cuts during a cost of living crisis. Willis refused to reveal detailed costings, but promised she wouldn't borrow. It turns out the tax cuts were insignificant to most and equity pay is the price we paid for them.

Nicola Willis promised to resign if she needed to borrow money to pay for her tax cuts. The tax cuts cost $10 billion & Willis borrowed $12 billion. Equity pay is the latest thing to be scrapped to help Willis out of this hole. Isn't it time you resigned, @NicolaWillisMP?

When National discovered they couldn't rely on a foreign home buyers tax to pay for their $14.9 billion tax cut package, they were forced to borrow $12 billion. Despite this, Willis refused to concede that the borrowing was necessary for the tax cuts:
