6 years ago, Donald Trump called out California leadership for their failure to protect Californians from fires. This week, thousands of acres of southern California have caught on fire. "We're giving billions and billions of dollars for forest fires in California. There's no reason for those fires to be like they are." "Instead of cleaning it up, they don't touch them. They leave them. And we ended up with these massive fires that we're paying for." "California ought to get their act together and clean up their forests and manage their forests because it's disgraceful."

Before doing my media day, I shared a post of loved ones that have passed away to the Maui fires. Seeing faces of children, families, kapunas… it hit me hard. In honor of those lives that have been lost in the fire and to the heroes that are doing what they can, my walk out song is dedicated to you guys. Also in solidarity to the people of Lahaina, I will be wearing red trunks in my fight for the first time. If anyone out there who wants to put in their hand and help the families that have been directly affected by the fires, go to @lahaina_ohana_venmo on ig and donate. Greece arrests 79 people for wildfire arson across the country. As I have talked about at length on the podcast and in my articles, The fires in Spain and Greece were likely arson related. Local Firefighters and politicians have been saying it for months and I first made mention of it back in April of this year. I have consistently called them human scum on the show since speaking on this topic. Well today, Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias, had the same thing to say: "Arsonist scum are setting fires that threaten forests, property and, most of all, human lives. You are committing a crime against the country. You will not get away with it, we will find you, you will be held accountable.” On April 1st, I reported Spain and the Asturias regional President Adrián Barbón saying “the full weight of the law would come down on the fire terrorists.” He went on to say that the fires were started in an organized way by criminals taking advantage of the adverse weather conditions. 20 people have died as a result of the fires in Greece, including firefighters.

The fires in the Texas Panhandle are raging ferociously. My team in the state is continuously monitoring the ongoing situation closely. We need those who are impacted to listen to your local officials’ warnings and be prepared to move out of harms way. Heidi and I are continuing to pray for those who have been impacted by these fires, and the first responders who are working bravely to contain the blaze.

Watching Fran talk about her home in Altadena broke me. The enormity of the loss in the LA area is hard to comprehend and is ongoing as the fires continue to expand and new ones pop up. For people who either don’t live in LA or have never lived in LA, there’s this idea that everyone impacted by the fires is wealthy and doesn’t need support. Nothing could be further from the truth. While there are some very wealthy people who have lost their homes—people who have the resources to rebuild—there are so many people who have been impacted by the fires who desperately need support. People in communities like Altadena, where fires have ravaged so many homes, are, for the most part, not wealthy. Many of them have lived in their homes for decades and bought them when Altadena was a much more affordable community. There are also many renters who have been impacted by the fires. And this doesn’t even address all of the hourly workers who have lost customers and clients now that so many houses have burned down. I have linked to two GoFundMe pages below. The first is the GoFundMe Foundation’s fundraiser, which will provide grants to people in need. Since the money is going to the foundation, your donations are tax-deductible. The second link is for a page that lists GoFundMe pages that GoFundMe has verified and authenticated. Incredible progress has been made on wildfires in both Washington and Oregon. This is a view of nighttime firing Ops on the Kaiser Canyon Fire near Nespelem, WA. The fire is now 136,870 acres and 52% contained. Next door, the Sinlahekin Fire is 126,168 acres. Down in Oregon, the larger complex fires all have significant containment, with the least contained fires in the PNW being those in wilderness areas. There are 436 crews, 1,033 engines, and 94 helicopters in the region, for a total of 18,637 fire personnel assigned to PNW fires. Not only around Jerusalem, Fires started in Northern Israel as well. It is now obvious that the dozens of fires were started by Palestinian terrorists to sabotage the Independence day celebrationd. To kick a country when they're down, when they are trying to put out these fires, when that country in question, Canada, rushes to our defense whenever we have fires. When we had the fires here in LA, what did Canada do? They sent firefighters to help us. That's what a good neighbor does. When we had fires in the Colorado area, what did Canada do? They sent people here to help us. And a Canadian died fighting those fires in Colorado. And now Donald Trump has the nerve not to send help and actually figure out a way to actually solve this problem but to kick Canada and try to bully them like the predator that he is."

As a proud Angeleno, the fires that have devastated our county have been heart-breaking. I am so fortunate that while my own home in the Palisades was at risk and had some damage from the fires, I am safe. So many others cannot say the same, and my heart goes out to all of those who have been affected and are rebuilding their lives from ash. I wrote this poem, “Smoldering Dawn”, to process my own fears and prayers for us as we come together as a community to heal from this trauma. While we mourn what we have lost, we also give thanks to the first responders, firefighters and civilians who have fought so tirelessly to combat these fires and ensure the safety of so many. To honor them, I’m releasing this poem as a fundraiser for the California Fire Foundation, which is offering support and aid to firefighters families, as well as those who have been impacted by the fires. 💛 Give what you can, help who you can, stay safe, and this too we shall conquer.
