The real-life Matt Foley was a Jesuit priest Chris met at Marquette. He was Chris' priest and close friend for the rest of his life. I met Matt my first day at Marquette because his brother was my freshman roommate. Chris movied on to our floor sophomore year.

Chris Farley was initially chosen to portray Shrek, but tragically, he passed away before the film's completion. He managed to record 85% of his lines before his untimely demise in December 1997. Leaked footage of Farley's portrayal exists. Subsequently, Mike Myers stepped in to replace Farley and requested a script overhaul to infuse his unique interpretation of Shrek into the movie. Happy Rosie Ruiz Day if you're observing it... 45 years ago today, April 21, 1980, 26-year old Rosie Ruiz won the 84h Boston Marathon, but she was stripped of the title 8 days later when it was determined she took the T to Kenmore Square station, located about a mile from the finish line, where she jumped into the race. Ruiz never admitted she cheated. She passed away in 2019.

Last night about a thousand Jews and friends gathered outside Park East synagogue to show their support after they were attacked by a bunch losers in masks last week. Almost every speaker mentioned their love for the US, NYC and thanked the NYPD to the cheers of the crowd. Matisyahu sang about how one day we’ll live in peace and our children will play. A holocaust survivor rabbi told us not to be afraid. A cute kid choir performed in Hebrew (without hats, so no doubt their Jewish mothers were freaking out). It was freezing and warm at the same time. Proud New Yorkers, proud Jews, proud Zionists.
