Sellers is another example in a long list of artists whose work I greatly admire but struggle to separate this from what a difficult person he was (4 wives children left out of his will) There's so much of his work (The Goons Strangelove Lolita Pink Panther) that's brilliant

He supposedly went into the studio one night and recorded a 45-minute solo track about his breakup with Susannah Melvoin. When he finished, he told his engineer to do something he’d never done before - erase the tapes. She begged him not to do it because, according to her, it was the most perfect song she’d ever heard. The next day, he recorded a new version of the song and kept adding stuff to it… Drums. Horns. Everything. Then he forgot it. It wasn’t on an album or a single. It was just a song he made. It wasn’t until 2020 when his estate released a shortened version of it. “Wally” Happy birthday to a musical genius.
