When seen in person it really is just stylish car but open the hood and doors and well, it’s special! Love to feel how it is on the road. I guess I’ll have to rely on Jay‘s experience because this is as close as I’ll ever get. 😉

Leno's Turbine car is not the only one out there owned by a private individual...

A friend of mines father worked for Chrysler and was one of the people who got to drive one of these cars. He said it was a bit noisy warming up, but then I quieted to a mild wind. Only bad thing about it was waiting for it to warm up enough to drive, but he said it was great.

Like all turbine engines, they want to run at a consistent RPM, which doesn't lend itself to stop and go driving. Chrysler killed it because it was impractical. But the engine lived on in the Abrams tank.

Shitty fuel economy, even for the 1960s, didn’t help the Turbine. They really should’ve used that beautiful body design for another model, though, like maybe a turbocharged vehicle to compete with Olds!

At least AI pronounced it tur - bine, not turban like some folks think. It's a turbine motor, not a turban motor. 🚗💨💨💨 BTW it does sound like a jet taking off.

Rode in one Chrysler had at the Bicentennial Exposition at the Kennedy Space Center. It was fast for its time period and super quiet. What Leno had to do to get it running is a great story. Watch it on Leno’s Garage. @LenosGarage

An old customer at the service station I managed in the 1980’s ..he had connections to the factory..talked about the turbine car..I think he had one..or drove one..he was a Chrysler guy.
