"Palestine is a word as old as literacy itself." Speaking on Novara Media, Scottish historian William Dalrymple explained that the name Palestine is rooted deep in history, far earlier than the Romans. He said the word appears in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, Assyrian texts and even in the writings of Herodotus, the father of history. Dalrymple described Palestine as part of a region that has always been plural, cosmopolitan and a mixture of peoples, with modern Palestinians sharing almost identical DNA with Bronze Age inhabitants of the land. "Palestinians have always been there," he said, adding that now is the time for them to have a state and for the world to work towards that goal.
