Rent. Light bill. Gas bill. Fridge empty...

I saw her singing backup for Luther Vandross at MSG and he gave her an opportunity to show off her chops. Her 1st record under the name Xena was "On the Upside", early dance music 1983.

I used to sing this with all my heart at 10 years old. My lil boyfriend had put me through 😩

Reaction shot 1:37 in:

Lisa played the back, when she was made for the front!

There are some songs that will NEVER have a remake. Lisa Fischer owned this song. It is so beautiful and powerful and that money high note...was mesmerizing. What a magnificent voice!! She was so beautiful in this video.

Naw that was sangin for her life!!! Lisa!!!!

Watch a documentary called 20 Feet From Stardom. Good story on Lisa and other legendary background singers.

An excellent doc, yes

Lisa hopped on that like somebody’s life was depending on her winning a Grammy

Love her I wish she would have released more singles 😩 but I heard she doesn't like the spotlight 💯 understandable

The pressure wasn't healthy. She was like "I'm cool"

You should pull up the reaction videos to this, you get to live vicariously through them of witnessing it for the 1st time all over again. Folk literally stunned

Gas money, child care, printer out of ink…. All of it

All the bills

@AlexisAffirms The mic was ON!

ANNND she's sitting out on the curb on the couch with Martin & Gina cause she's sangin' the F%*#@ out of this song... my lawd, my lawd, my lawd!! This is as close to perfection as a song can get to perfection. 💕💕💕💕

Saw her perform live back in February 2020.

She spent so much of her life being a background singer to Divas, meanwhile Lisa Fisher had a lead voice like this!!

Gas tank on E. Baby on his last diaper. Outta toilet tisher…

Now SHE could stand toe to toe with Whitney Houston.

Black musical talent not being put at the forefront like this anymore is a travesty

The people were on the side of her house ready to cut the internet wire. One of my favorite live performances ever.

I love following her on IG. She will go live at some of her shows, and her voice has gotten even better! I adore her.

@_xPinchOfZeusx_ Whewwwww, where is she now😳

@_xPinchOfZeusx_ Still performing!

@_xPinchOfZeusx_ Does she have other songs, bc all I know is this one but I did read that she did back up a lot!

@_xPinchOfZeusx_ She only did one solo album. She prefers being a background vocalist to the pressures - especially with image - of being the star

@ww2me Gas light on your kids and your dogs stomachs are rumbling!!!

This makes me happy to be a part of this time, to bear witness to this greatness 👏🏾👏🏾💪🏾

Yes! This right here 👏🏼👏🏼

@DrLeonardF

Lisa Fischer tore that song up

Lisa Legendary bro! You will not find someone singing live better.

Lawwwd hammercy !! 😍🎵

Dear God!

“…give me all, or nothing at aaaall”
