I know too much history and have too much love for Black Americans to regulate our entire story to slavery. We are bigger than slavery. Slavery is a institution created by white identifying immigrant men. They call it prison today. There are more Black Americans in prison today than were in slavery. Slavery is not the story of all Black Americans. There were more of us fighting back than enslaved. There’s a war called the Gullah Geechee war that lasted over 100 years that they try and erase from history because that War was the beginning of the end of our autonomy. That war helps tie up and expose some of these lies they teach our kids every day.

Native American tribes; the interned Japanese; Holocaust survivors and their descendants; descendants of 9/11 victims; Iranian hostages; Guamanians; the Downwinders and their descendants; victims of sexual abuse that the FBI failed to address; veterans exposed to burn pits; all of these groups get reparations, have received reparations, or will get them. In some cases, their DESCENDANTS receive reparations. We are told, "Never forget," when when it comes to tragedies done, and the debt owed to other groups. We, Freedmen (Black Americans who are the descendants of those emancipated from American slavery), are the only ones who have not been paid reparations and are told "get over it." We have not, and we will not. Reparations are due, and we will get them just as we abolished slavery and ended Jim Crow. I make this point at the candidate debate.
