Mortal Kombat is PURE HYPE for sure, but I've gotta give it to Terminator 2 for having one of the strongest film introductions of all-time. It's an incredibly solid opening statement of intent that preps the audience for one HELL of a ride!

Yep, an epic opening and an excellent series, the first two (I like 3 but things went a bit sideways after that). That theme is something else too. The special effects are so well done with the terminators and there's a really strong apocalyptic vibe. Powerful intro.

That one is epic; one of the greats, but the intro for Conan the Barbarian is likely the best ever filmed and scored.

Well, Arnie is one of the cinema greats for action movies for sure. May have to revisit that one - already watched The Running Man original recently.

It gets better every time it's watched.🔥 It's a masterpiece, and it's finally being acknowledged as such. Orchestras still perform the score, and it still hits like a lead hammer. Sound, score, cinematography, sets, location and yes, even acting, are awe inspiring.

Yeah, I figured, but MK is also better than it's given credit for, and gaining more appreciation over time. There isn't much to complain about. It's precisely what it needs to be. 🔥 The modern remake was cool, but forgettable.

Aside the opening, I don't think any movies will ever come close to this trilogy...

For sure, The Lord of the Rings is up there. The Two Towers is my favourite of the three, very moody, bleak and has one of the best battles of cinema history - the battle of helm's deep.

Yep, the intro still looks class. Having watched it again just now, I think the movie has aged pretty well too. There's a great deal of humour through the movie that hits the mark and a lot of strong themes. What makes the original Mortal Kombat movie so great is the casting! They all work so well together. And of course a sense of 90s fun, something which is sometimes missing like in remakes.

Yeah, the humour has aged extremely well - totally forward thinking. And yep, I adore the OG cast. Christopher Lamber was AWESOME as Raiden too... loved the spin on the character. It would have been cool to have an older MK game with the movie stars digitized in it.

Yep, Christopher Lambert as Raiden, one of my favourites. Totally love that actor anyway, but he works so well as the Thunder god - conflicted between being mischievous and trying to retain order. Wilson works nicely alongside Ashby and the banter between the two is amusing. Always such a shame Annihilation was such a hot mess. Robin Shou and Talisa Soto are both still great in that second movie, but it's hard to defend, especially with most the cast missing.. 🤭

Annihilation is such a bad movie. It's so much like the dodgy bits of Power Rangers for me. And yeah, have always loved Lambert too! Gotta watch Fortress again!

The Hunted (also 1995), one of my favourites. Worth checking out. Saw something about Fortress the other day, saying Schwarzenegger was supposed to be the original lead - a big shift in direction.

And I love The Hunted! Haven't seen it for YEARS. Time to hunt it down :D

Worth it for the train sequence alone. Again like with MK, an epic soundtrack. The director also did Pretty Woman lol

X-Men 2 has Nightcrawler beating the crap out of a bunch of Secret Service people at the White House while Mozart's Requiem In C Minor 2nd Movement (Dies Irae) plays. I feel that's pretty tough to top.

There's no better movie Intro! For a 13 years old kid, this was the most mind blowing experience watching a movie... and it didn't even had 'started' 😄

Hype af lol. If you were a teen at this time in the 90s into MK, this intro was like a huge sugar rush. 😅 Intro definitely had the desired effect of getting you pumped up for the movie.

As a kid this meant it’s turtle time

I saw that in theaters and it was the loudest movie I have ever seen. The Sony SDDS soundtrack was incredible, and they CRANKED the volume to over 110dB. It was so incredibly painful to listen to because of how loud it was, but looking back, it was awesome. My ears rang for days

The incoming tinnitus was all worth it for Mortal Kombat theme on full blast. 😅 To be fair, must've been amazing watching that on a massive screen (I was too young in 95' lol).
