Q: Did Kevin Warsh commit to you that he will push to cut interest rates? TRUMP: No. But we talk about it. I don't want to ask him that question. I think it's inappropriate, probably. It probably would be allowed, but I want to keep it nice and pure. But he certainly wants to cut rates.

Warren: This should be an easy one. Can you commit that Trump's Fed nominee, Kevin Warsh, will not be sued or investigated by the DOJ if he does not cut interest rates in the way Trump wants? Bessent: That's up to the president

GALLEGO: Earlier today, you told Sec. Kennedy that Trump never demanded you to cut interest rates. Is that your sworn testimony? WARSH: That is, senator. GALLEGO: Okay. Well someone here is lying then. Because Trump confirmed he pressed you on interest rate cuts.

President Trump said his Fed Chair pick Kevin Warsh made no commitment to cut rates. Trump added he believes Warsh would lower interest rates based on his own judgment rather than under any political pressure.

I asked Kevin Warsh a simple question: did Donald Trump pressure you to cut interest rates? Warsh says no. Trump says yes. They can’t get their story straight, and the independence of the Federal Reserve is on the line.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA): “The problem is that President Trump has said he’s not going to appoint anybody who wouldn’t agree to lower interest rates. Have you agreed with the president that you are going to lower interest rates?” Fed Chair nominee Kevin Warsh: “I’m glad you framed it that way. The president never asked me to predetermine, commit, fix, or decide on any interest rate decision in any of our discussions, nor would I ever agree to do so.” John Kennedy: “So the president has never sat you down, looked you in the eye, and said, ‘Here’s the deal, Scooter — I’m going to appoint you, but you’ve got to agree to lower interest rates.’ That didn’t happen, or did it happen?” Kevin Warsh: “The president never once asked me to commit to any particular interest rate decision, period, and nor would I ever agree to do so if he had — but he never did. I was honored he nominated me. Like everyone else on the committee and in the world, I’ve heard his view on interest rates. It sounded very similar to me to every other president in economic history that I’ve studied.”
