Leavitt on Tillis: I certainly don't think a US senator should be holding the entire country and our economy hostage over the fact that he has some political disagreements with an investigation that the DOJ is overseeing. And the DOJ is overseeing a probe into Jerome Powell, a legitimate probe, and Jerome Powell is expected to be out of this job in may anyway, so I don't understand Senator Tillis' argument there.

The President claims he "didn't know anything about" the DOJ's investigation into Fed Chair Jay Powell. If that’s true, how did this investigation begin? Did somebody go rogue? The American people have questions, the Oversight Committee should do its job and provide answers.

President Trump has long criticized Fed Chair Jerome Powell. Now Powell is pushing back, claiming a DOJ investigation is retaliation for refusing to cut interest rates, as bipartisan concerns grow over the Federal Reserve’s independence.

Q: How can markets trust that the Fed is truly independent if it looks like there's a criminal investigation into Fed Chair Powell for not complying with the president's wishes? MIKE JOHNSON: Powell is an individual. He is not the Fed. And it's a serious allegation if he was not truthful in testimony to Congress. We don't play favorites.
