It's why they are looking to limit how much money people can take out; not being able to access your own money on retirement, pretty horrible really.

Very true. Superannuation is based on the idea that the market can never fail, that investment is without risk. Once you accept a risk of loss, the questions becomes who owns that risk. Superannuation places the risk with the taxpayer, but takes away the choice of investment.

The problem is, due to government regulations, many industries have left Australia. So there’s not much to invest in here. Capital goes where it’s treated best. Just compare the SP500 over the last 10 years to the ASX200.

Given the horrible business environment in Australia why would you want to invest there? Perhaps and REIT in property might work but I would want some diversification into other countries!

Super is an investment. I made 30% on mine by switching classes prior and during the GFC. Don’t treat it like a set and forget.
