Republicans’ real issue is with free speech and education—not addressing antisemitism and other forms of hatred on college campuses. Suppressing the right to protest is an entry point for the erosion of civil liberties. We must fight against it.

It is a threat to free societies, to democracy, and to our shared civilization. History teaches us that hatred must be confronted early. When antisemitism is tolerated, it spreads. Lies become violence. Israel’s fight today is not only for our own security, but for the values and freedoms of the free world. To Jews everywhere, especially the younger generation: do not bow your head. Stand tall. Speak the truth. The only way to defeat antisemitism is to name it, acknowledge it, and for all of us to confront it head-on. While Jews are the target of this hate, they are not the only victims. History is filled with many examples of when hatred begins, it does not end with its original target. Antisemitism today can quickly become attacks on the LGBTQ community and other minority groups tomorrow. It is incumbent on all of us to confront antisemitism, not just to protect members of the Jewish community but also to prevent the spread of hatred to other parts of society. People of all faiths and backgrounds must firmly stand together against bigotry and hatred, and the violence it breeds. Jews are just 2% of the U.S. population but are targeted in 68% of religion-based hate crimes. People have been murdered while their killers shouted “Free Palestine.” This hatred runs rampant on college campuses, where Jewish students are harassed for supporting Israel, and ends in violence on our streets. This is the new antisemitism. And under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, it’s illegal. We need to call it what it is. And we need to stop it now.
