Resident doctors have had a massive pay rise - one most could only dream of. Now they plan to strike again. Keir Starmer kowtowed to the unions because he relies on their money. They’ll just keep coming back for more. We need to ban doctors from striking.

As a resident doctor in England, I’ll be back on strike tomorrow - and I want to be clear about why. We have NHS doctors who want to serve patients, who trained for years, who are being pushed into unemployment on top of Government caps on how many doctors can train to become Consultants or GPs. That means fewer doctors for your A&E, your GP surgery, your hospital wards. At the same time, Wes Streeting is recommending a real terms pay cut next year, on top of the 20% pay erosion we’ve already taken. It’s getting harder to keep doctors in the NHS; and patients feel that every day through longer waits. We’re striking because the current system fails patients and leaves skilled NHS doctors on the sidelines. Wes Streeting could end the strikes right now by putting forward a credible offer. Until then, I’ll be on the picket lines with Resident Doctors; because standing up for doctors is standing up for the public too. #payrestoration #endtrainingcrisis

The irony of calling Resident Drs selfish for striking on the run up towards xmas because YOU the public need taking care of by them but refusing to pay them adequately! And no they haven't had a full pay restoration - most are on less money than a PA.

In 2024 Labour said they’d sorted a pay deal to end doctor’s strikes. This is the second time doctors have gone on strike since then. Labour lack the backbone to deal with strikes. The Conservatives have a plan to ban strikes, to stop doctors holding the NHS to ransom.

Doctors are asking for pay restoration; a move to £22.67/hr over time to return pay to where it was before years of erosion. Yet Wes Streeting has called this unreasonable and has recommended another real terms pay cut for doctors this April. At the same time, qualified doctors are being left unemployed because there aren’t enough jobs. Doctors are being pushed out of the NHS altogether; with more doctors leaving in 2024 than in the entire previous decade. Pay erosion. Job shortages. Doctors leaving. That is why resident doctors are reballoting. Resident doctors in England: you have hours left to request a replacement ballot: 👉 If you already have your ballot, post it back with a YES vote for jobs and pay by 26th January.
